Digital Realty’s 49% Westin Building stake was an additional interest it bought from Clise Properties in February 2020—not its final ownership share. Digital Realty already owned 50%; after the deal closed on February 25, it reported owning 99% of the Seattle property.
What did Digital Realty’s 49% Westin stake mean?
On February 12, 2020, Digital Realty announced it would acquire an additional 49% interest in the Westin Building Exchange from Clise Properties. The company’s subsequent SEC filing records the closing on February 25 and says the acquisition increased Digital Realty’s ownership from 50% to 99%. The 49% figure describes the increment acquired, not the company’s resulting ownership. Digital Realty’s announcement and SEC filing document the transaction.
How much did Digital Realty pay?
Digital Realty’s 2020 SEC filing reports an approximately $305 million purchase price for the acquired interest, plus assumed debt. The company’s first-quarter 2020 release described the amount as approximately $368 million including existing debt. These are different measures: $305 million is the price excluding assumed debt, while $368 million includes it. The filing and the quarterly release provide the respective figures.
What is the Westin Building Exchange?
The Westin Building Exchange is a Seattle colocation and interconnection facility at 2001 Sixth Avenue, marketed by Digital Realty as SEA10. In its February 2020 announcement, Digital Realty called it “the primary interconnection hub for the Pacific Northwest, linking Canada, Alaska and Asia along the Pacific Rim.” The same announcement reported more than 150 carriers and more than 10,000 cross-connects at that time; those are historical company-reported counts, not confirmed current totals.

Digital Realty’s facility page, accessed in 2026, describes SEA10 as a 34-story building with 412,500 square feet, N+2 UPS redundancy, N+1 cooling redundancy, and 100% renewable energy. These are the company’s published facility specifications. Its current Seattle market page lists one facility at the Westin Building, 412,500 square feet of colocation space, and 150+ cloud and network service providers across the Seattle market. The Seattle-market provider figure is not a current building-specific carrier count. See Digital Realty’s SEA10 facility page and Seattle market page.
