Some Walmart customers reported Nintendo Switch 2 preorder cancellations in the days before the console’s June 5, 2025 launch. The reports do not show that Walmart canceled all or most preorders, how many orders were affected, or one confirmed cause. They describe historical launch-period accounts—not evidence of a current wave of cancellations.
What happened with Walmart Switch 2 preorders?
On June 3, 2025, Nintendo Life reported customer accounts of last-minute Switch 2 preorder cancellations at Walmart, Target, and GameStop. The number of cancellations was unspecified. One Walmart buyer quoted in the report said their cancellation message cited a payment error; that individual account does not establish the reason for other cancellations. Read the June 3 report.

Earlier, in April 2025, Walmart told The Associated Press that its early Switch 2 listings had “sold out quickly due to high demand” and that delivery by June 5 was not guaranteed. Those comments concerned demand and delivery timing; they did not confirm or explain the later cancellation reports. The Associated Press reported Walmart’s statement.
Does this mean Walmart canceled most or all preorders?
No such conclusion is supported by the available reporting. It confirms that some customers reported cancellations, but gives no reliable total or estimate of the share of Walmart orders affected. It also does not establish a company-wide cancellation policy, a common cause, or a guaranteed process for restoring an order.

How to check whether your Walmart order was canceled
- Sign in to the Walmart account used for the purchase and open the order to see its current status.
- Check Walmart email and app notifications for an order-specific notice. Read whether it says the order was canceled or describes a payment or authorization update.
- If the order shows canceled, follow the notice’s instructions or contact Walmart support about that specific order.
- Do not treat an old pending card authorization by itself as proof of cancellation. The available reporting and Walmart help information do not establish that a pending hold means a Switch 2 preorder was canceled.
What Walmart says about canceled orders
Walmart’s general order-help page states, “If we cancel your order, we won’t charge you.” This is a general policy statement, not a Switch 2-specific explanation or promise to reinstate an order. Nintendo’s May 2026 investor material said the U.S. Switch 2 system price was scheduled to change to $499.99 on September 1, 2026. That later price context does not explain the reported cancellations before the June 2025 launch. See Nintendo’s May 2026 investor material.
