That means the aircraft has disappeared from United’s expected delivery schedule; it does not establish that the airline formally canceled the order. United also disclosed an unresolved dispute with Rolls-Royce over engine-purchase and maintenance agreements, but its filings do not show that the dispute alone determined the A350’s place in its fleet plans.
What United’s latest filing says about the A350
In its fleet schedule as of June 30, 2026, United lists 45 firm Airbus A350 commitments. The same table shows no expected deliveries in the second half of 2026, in 2027, or after 2027. Its contractual delivery-period column still assigns all 45 aircraft to the period after 2027, while the expected-delivery columns show dashes. The distinction matters: an order can remain listed as a firm contractual commitment even when the airline’s expected delivery schedule contains no dates. The filing therefore supports saying that United no longer shows expected A350 deliveries in its schedule; it does not document a formal cancellation or explain the private commercial terms behind the schedule.
Why did United remove the A350 from its fleet plans?
The disclosed Rolls-Royce dispute is relevant context, but the public filings do not establish that it was the sole reason for United’s fleet planning. United said it was considering implications of the matter involving other parties. Separately, United and Airbus executed another amendment to the A350-900 purchase agreement on February 27, 2026. The public exhibit redacts material commercial provisions, so it does not reveal whether the amendment changed timing, quantities, or other terms. United-Airbus Amendment No. 10.

The amendment does show that the purchase agreement remained subject to amendment at that time. It does not prove that United restored, canceled, or rescheduled the order on any specific terms. The latest relevant schedule established here is dated June 30, 2026; it should not be treated as a real-time forecast.
What is the Rolls-Royce dispute?
United’s 2025 annual filing describes agreements entered into in 2010 with Rolls-Royce for engine purchases and related maintenance services for certain widebody aircraft. United says it paid Rolls-Royce a $175 million commitment payment in 2017. The $175 million is the reported payment, not a stated total damages claim: United says its later demand included contractual escalation, but the filing does not give the total amount demanded. According to United’s account in that filing, it demanded repayment plus contractual escalation in December 2025 after alleging that Rolls-Royce had breached the agreements. United says Rolls-Royce did not make the demanded payment, terminated the agreements, and asserted that United had breached them. United disputes that the termination was proper. Each party contends the other owes damages. Those are the parties’ positions as reported by United, not judicial findings.
The A350 has a Rolls-Royce connection: Airbus describes the A350-1000ULR as powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. That aircraft-family detail does not establish the precise engine terms of United’s disputed agreements or prove a direct contractual link between those agreements and every aircraft in United’s A350 commitment. What is known—and not known—about the financial and legal outcome
United said it was taking steps to recover money it believes it is owed, but gave no assurance it would recover the funds or prevail. At December 31, 2025, it said a loss was neither probable nor reasonably estimable because the matter was preliminary, and it had not recognized a gain. The filing does not state the dispute’s ultimate outcome or a total damages figure.
For an investor or reader assessing the fleet decision, the key distinction is between United’s accounting disclosure and a final legal resolution: the company described competing claims and uncertainty, not a settled liability or recovery. No conclusion about which party is legally responsible follows from the filing alone.

How United’s A350 order changed over time

The historical changes help explain why a listed commitment should not be mistaken for a current delivery date. The current filing provides a count and a schedule, but the public materials do not establish a final cancellation date, a revised delivery timetable, or the commercial effect of the redacted Airbus amendment.
