At a pre-fight press conference, Alalshikh said the contract between him and Canelo was “more than” $100 million, but the remark did not establish whether he meant the September bout alone or a broader Saudi deal. The Independent said the scope was unclear and that the wider deal seemed the more likely meaning.
What did Turki Alalshikh say about Canelo’s pay?
A reporter asked how Canelo felt about being “the first Mexican sports figure with a guaranteed purse of at least $100m.” Alalshikh interrupted: “No, you get the number wrong. The contract between us and Canelo [is] more than that.” The bracketed “[is]” is an editorial clarification in The Independent’s published quotation.
That wording refers to a contract between Alalshikh and Canelo, not explicitly to Canelo’s purse for one fight. The Independent’s contemporaneous account noted that the comment’s scope was unclear; it judged a broader Saudi agreement seemed more likely. The Independent’s September 13, 2025 report does not confirm a standalone purse above $100 million.
Was the $100 million-plus figure for one fight or a Saudi deal?
The public quote does not settle that question. A fight purse is compensation for a particular bout; a multi-fight contract can cover several appearances. Treating Alalshikh’s statement as a confirmed payment for the Crawford bout would go beyond what he said.

Before the event, The Independent described the Crawford bout as the second contest in a four-fight Saudi deal for Canelo. It reported that Canelo had beaten William Scull in May 2025, with two more contests then set for 2026. That context makes a multi-fight interpretation plausible, but it does not prove what Alalshikh meant by “the contract.” The Independent’s report provides the deal context and the qualification.
What happened in the Canelo–Crawford fight?
The bout took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13, 2025. Terence Crawford won the 12-round fight, and the Associated Press reported a venue-record attendance of 70,482. The event had been announced as a Riyadh Season showdown with global streaming on Netflix. The Associated Press reported the result and attendance; the event announcement listed the date, location and planned distribution.

The cited reports do not establish the exact purse paid to Canelo for the Crawford fight, how compensation was allocated across the Saudi deal, or any bonuses, taxes or other payment terms.
