Millwall reportedly held investment talks with Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh, but the claim was disputed: BBC Sport attributed it to the Daily Mail, while Millwall’s response, reported by The New Arab, said there was “no substance” to takeover talks and that the club was not for sale. The available reporting does not establish whether any private contact took place.
What was reported about Millwall and Alalshikh?
On 23 May 2025, BBC Sport’s gossip column said Millwall and Alalshikh were “understood to have held talks over a shock investment,” attributing the claim to the Daily Mail. That was secondary reporting of an attributed claim, not independent confirmation of negotiations. BBC Sport’s item did not establish that an offer had been made or that a transaction was imminent.
What did Millwall say?
Also on 23 May 2025, The New Arab reported Millwall’s response: “there is no substance regarding any takeover talks” and “the club is not for sale.” Those words are attributed to the club by The New Arab; the reporting does not establish that Millwall published a formal statement directly. Read The New Arab’s account.
Did the public signals prove negotiations took place?
No. The New Arab said Alalshikh’s social-media reactions to Millwall posts and comments attributed to Daily Mail columnist Simon Jordan helped fuel speculation. Such signals explain why the story drew attention, but they do not independently verify private talks. The reviewed reports also contain no directly attributable statement from Alalshikh confirming Millwall discussions.

Who is Turki Alalshikh?
BBC Sport described Alalshikh as a Saudi government official and a prominent boxing figure. It reported that he owned Spanish club Almeria from 2019 until 2025 and Egyptian club Pyramids FC from 2018 to 2019. That background identifies his prior involvement in football, but it is not evidence of a Millwall investment. BBC Sport’s profile explains his background.
What later happened with his proposed Derby County purchase?
In a separate report published 10 August 2026, BBC Sport said Alalshikh’s proposed purchase of Derby County through Lion Sport would not proceed; Derby said the club was off the market. That later development concerns Derby, not Millwall, and neither confirms nor disproves the 2025 Millwall report. BBC Sport reported the Derby development.

What is known about Millwall’s ownership?
A May 2025 report said Millwall Holdings Limited had owned the club since 2007 and that James Berylson chaired it after his father John’s death in 2023. This is historical reporting, not a verified update on current ownership. It does not establish whether the club’s ownership position has since changed.

The 2025 report and the club’s reported denial do not settle whether undisclosed contact occurred, either before or after the response. The material available here establishes a reported claim and a denial—not a completed sale, confirmed negotiations, or a later agreement.
