Tesla’s original “Master Plan” disappeared from the company’s blog during a broad removal of pre-2019 posts reported in August 2024. It is not currently missing: Tesla’s official Master Plans page now lists the original plan and three later plans. The available sources do not explain why the blog posts were removed or establish when the plans returned to Tesla’s listing.
What happened to Tesla’s Master Plan?
On August 24, 2024, Electrek reported that Tesla had deleted its pre-2019 blog posts, including Elon Musk’s original plan. Fortune reported on August 28, 2024, that the original plan and “Master Plan, Part Deux” were no longer available through Tesla’s blog; the original link redirected to the blog page.
Tesla’s current official Master Plans page lists the original plan, Part Deux, Part 3 and Part 4. That current listing means the 2024 reports describe a past removal, not the plans’ present availability. The reviewed sources do not establish exactly when Tesla restored the plans to its page.
Can you still read the original plan?
Yes. Start with Tesla’s official Master Plans page, which currently lists the original plan alongside its later installments. If you are looking for the historical blog version and it is not accessible there, Electrek reported that removed posts could be found through the Internet Archive.

What did the original Master Plan propose?
The original plan was a 2006 blog post by Elon Musk, then Tesla’s chairman. Tesla’s 2024 proxy statement describes its staged approach: begin with a high-priced Roadster, use the proceeds to build an affordable car, then a more affordable car, while also providing zero-emission electric-power generation options.
Musk framed the broader purpose as accelerating the shift “from a mine-and-burn hydrocarbon economy towards a solar electric economy,” while describing solar power as the primary, but not exclusive, sustainable solution. The statement appears in Fortune’s 2024 report quoting the original plan.

How do the later plans fit in?
Tesla’s 2024 proxy statement dates “Master Plan, Part Deux” to July 2016. Tesla’s current page also lists Part 3 and Part 4. The sources reviewed do not establish the exact publication dates for those two later plans.

The available sources do not give a reason. Electrek and Fortune documented the removal in August 2024, but neither report establishes Tesla’s motive. The sources also do not establish a precise restoration date, so explanations connecting the removal to a change in strategy, climate messaging or legal issues would be speculation.
