The available reports do not verify that Prince Abdullah sent Sheffield United fans a message described as a “heartfelt thank you” after the club’s takeover. The BBC reported his reflections on selling the club in December 2024; the matching “heartfelt thank you” wording was attributed to manager Chris Wilder in a separate farewell message in 2025.
What did Prince Abdullah say after Sheffield United’s takeover?
After COH Sports completed its takeover in the week before 30 December 2024, ending his 11-year ownership spell, Abdullah spoke about his tenure and the difficulty of selling. The BBC’s 30 December 2024 report quoted him saying: “When I want to feel proud and happy I compare the first day I entered into the club to the day I left,” and, “I would not change any of it.” He also said: “Owning a club is emotionally exhausting because of the ups and downs.”
The BBC report is an account of an interview, not a transcript of a standalone post-takeover message to supporters. It presents Abdullah’s comments as reflections on his ownership and the sale, rather than as a fan message using the “heartfelt thank you” wording.
Who said “This is a heartfelt thank you for all your support”?
A 2025 report attributes the sentence “This is a heartfelt thank you for all your support” to Chris Wilder in his farewell message to Sheffield United supporters after leaving the club. It should not be attributed to Abdullah: the available reporting connects that phrase to Wilder’s later departure, not Abdullah’s sale of the club.

When did COH Sports take over, and when did Abdullah become sole owner?
COH Sports completed its takeover in the week before 30 December 2024. That ended Abdullah’s reported 11-year spell as owner. He had initially joined Sheffield United as co-owner alongside Kevin McCabe, then became sole owner in September 2019. The club’s 2020/21 supporters’ charter says 16 September 2020 marked one year since he became sole owner.

The BBC reported that Sheffield United earned two promotions to the Premier League during Abdullah’s ownership and were relegated after the 2023–24 season. Those milestones help explain why his remarks addressed the highs and lows of a long, emotionally demanding spell at the club.
