What does “quadruples its budget” mean?
PC Gamer reported on February 1, 2026, that Markiplier’s horror film had taken an estimated $12.5 million from Thursday previews and Friday combined. The same report put its production budget at just under $3 million. Dividing the combined receipts by that approximate budget produces the headline comparison; it is not a Friday-only calculation or a confirmed accounting of the film’s final costs. PC Gamer’s February 1 report captured that early snapshot.

Yes. Box Office Mojo lists Iron Lung first for Friday, January 30, 2026, with a $9 million gross. That daily figure is distinct from the $12.5 million estimate, which included Thursday previews as well as Friday. The film opened theatrically in the United States on January 30. Box Office Mojo’s listing reports the daily rank and its opening figure.
How much did Iron Lung make over opening weekend?
Trackers report slightly different domestic opening-weekend totals. Box Office Mojo lists $17.8 million, while The Numbers reports $18,190,786. These are source-specific totals, so they should not be combined or presented as one definitive number.

The Numbers describes Iron Lung as a 127-minute live-action horror/science-fiction film based on a game, rated R for language, bloody images and some gore. The Numbers’ film listing provides its opening-weekend figure and film details.
Why do the budget figures differ?
The early headline comparison used a budget estimate of just under $3 million. Later, a February 28 PC Gamer report quoted Markiplier describing the budget as “a little over” $4 million. Those figures come from different points in time and should remain attributed rather than treated as interchangeable confirmed costs. In the same later report, PC Gamer said the film had grossed nearly $50 million. PC Gamer’s February 28 report includes Markiplier’s comments about the film’s financing and Hollywood interest.

Markiplier said, “No one was really bashing down my door to say, like, ‘We want to make your movie!’” He also said Hollywood was “willfully ignoring the potential of YouTubers here.” Both remarks were reported in that February 28 interview coverage.
What do later box-office figures show?
The Numbers lists Iron Lung with a worldwide theatrical gross of $51,226,173 and a $3 million production-budget estimate. Its listing also records a May 31, 2026 video release by YouTube. These are database figures and listings, distinct from Markiplier’s later description of the budget as a little over $4 million. The Numbers’ reported worldwide gross shows that the film’s theatrical performance went well beyond the opening-day snapshot; it does not establish the producers’ profit.

Why box-office gross is not profit
A gross-to-budget comparison is a useful scale check, not an earnings statement. The reported box-office gross is not the same as the amount returned to the film’s producers, and the cited sources do not provide a complete accounting of distribution terms, marketing expenses, or other costs. So the early “four times its budget” phrasing describes estimated receipts against an estimated production budget—not net profit.
