There is no evidence in the available reporting that Luke Humphries lost almost half of his World Darts Championship prize to tax. The claim appears to mix up Humphries’ £500,000 winner’s prize at the 2024 championship with tax estimates published about runner-up Luke Littler’s separate £200,000 prize.
What Luke Humphries won at the 2024 World Darts Championship
Humphries beat Littler 7–4 in the 2024 final. BBC Sport reported that Humphries received £500,000 as champion, while Littler received £200,000 as runner-up. BBC Sport’s final report gives those prize figures.
Where the tax claim comes from
A January 2024 LADbible article estimated tax and National Insurance deductions on Littler’s runner-up prize, attributing the estimate to Saxo. It concerns Littler, not Humphries, and is a reported estimate rather than an official tax assessment. LADbible’s article about Littler’s prize does not establish Humphries’ tax bill.
A separate LADbible story published in January 2026 discusses Littler’s £1 million prize after a later title win and attributes its estimate to OLBG. That article also does not establish what Humphries owed on his 2024 winnings. The 2026 Littler article is about a different player, prize and event.

What is and is not established about Humphries’ take-home amount
The reported £500,000 is Humphries’ gross winner’s prize. The sources cited here do not establish his tax residence, other income, allowable expenses, deductions or individual tax position, so they cannot support a reliable estimate of how much he kept. Applying an estimate for Littler to Humphries would conflate two people’s circumstances.
The Associated Press also reports that Littler lost the 2024 final to Humphries and earned £200,000 as runner-up, corroborating the distinction between their prizes. AP’s retrospective report does not provide a verified tax calculation for Humphries.
