No completed purchase of a planet by Lil Uzi Vert was established. The headline refers to a July 2021 social-media exchange about WASP-127b: Uzi said he was “still working on it,” while Grimes claimed he owned the planet and that documentation was nearly complete. The reporting documented those claims, not a completed transfer or ownership right recognized by law.
What did Lil Uzi Vert say about buying a planet?
The story began with Grimes posting, “Apparently [Lil Uzi Vert] owns this planet – just a heads up.” She later said documentation was nearly complete. On July 22, 2021, Lil Uzi Vert replied, “I tried 2 surprise everyone” and “still working on it.” Futurism’s report, updated August 4, 2021, described the exchange; it did not establish that a purchase had been completed. That makes this a historical viral claim, not a newly verified transaction. A post about ownership or paperwork is not evidence that a sale closed or created a recognized property right.
Which planet was named?
The posts referred to WASP-127b, an exoplanet. NASA’s Exoplanet Archive lists WASP-127 b as confirmed and records its detection by both radial-velocity and transit methods. NASA Exoplanet Archive: WASP-127

A 2020 scientific study describes WASP-127b as a close-in, sub-Saturn-mass planet. It reports a sodium absorption signal in observations made with ESPRESSO and says it found no robust visible-light detection of water vapor. Those are findings about the planet’s atmosphere; they do not provide evidence about the celebrity claim or any transaction. WASP-127b study, Astronomy & Astrophysics / arXiv
Would a planet purchase give someone ordinary ownership?
Futurism’s report quoted University of Nebraska–Lincoln space-law professor Frans von der Dunk rejecting the idea that someone could own a planet in the ordinary property sense. The article also reported space-law experts’ objections based on the Outer Space Treaty. These are legal views attributed to experts in that report, not a ruling about a completed Uzi transaction.
