Those reports are not the same as an official appointment announcement, and the sources cited here do not establish Charney’s role as of October 7, 2026.
What did reports say about Charney’s role at Yeezy?
The reporting describes Charney’s involvement in stages, from being included in business decisions to claims that he was asked to run the company.
Employees were reportedly told to involve him in major decisions
Rolling Stone reported on July 5, 2023, citing a source familiar with the situation, that Yeezy employees had been asked since at least April to loop Charney into major decisions, including financial ones. The report also said the source confirmed Charney had recently been in Japan with West; social media photos showed them shopping together. Rolling Stone’s report, republished by Yahoo.
Puck reported West asked him to run the business
Puck reporter Laura Sherman wrote that she had spoken with people in Charney’s camp and on the Yeezy side and could confirm that West had asked Charney to run the Yeezy business. Sherman did not confirm whether Charney was paid a salary. Puck’s report.

The CEO title was reported, not officially announced
In October 2023, the Los Angeles Times described Charney as “reportedly hired” that summer as Yeezy CEO, while also serving as chief executive of Los Angeles Apparel. The wording attributes the appointment to reporting rather than presenting a formal public announcement by Yeezy. Los Angeles Times coverage.

Was Charney officially Yeezy’s CEO?
The available reporting supports saying that West reportedly asked Charney to run Yeezy and that he was later described as reportedly hired as CEO. It does not establish an official CEO announcement from West, Charney, or Yeezy. The distinction matters: a report about being asked to run the business is not, by itself, proof of a formal appointment, its exact start date, or its terms.
Nor did Puck establish compensation. Sherman said she could not get a direct answer on whether Charney was paid a salary, so the sources cited here do not establish whether he was salaried or what his compensation might have been.

What does later coverage establish?
Fast Company reported in February 2024 that Charney coordinated Yeezy’s merchandise arm under Los Angeles Apparel after the Adidas relationship ended. That is evidence of a reported merchandise-coordination role at that time, not confirmation that he remained Yeezy CEO or held the same position later. Fast Company’s 2024 report.
Adidas’s 2016 announcement provides historical context for the former partnership: it said the Yeezy collaboration would cover footwear, apparel, and accessories across genders, with a dedicated Adidas team leading product development. The reports cited here do not verify Charney’s position as of October 7, 2026. The latest role-specific account in this set is Fast Company’s February 2024 report about coordinating merchandise. It would be inaccurate to treat the 2023 CEO reporting or the 2024 merchandise account as confirmation of his current title or duties.
