IKEA announced pay of £13.15 an hour for virtual co-worker roles in its Roblox experience, The Co-Worker Game. Applications closed on June 16, 2024; IKEA later said it had selected 10 candidates from more than 178,000 applications. The announced rate was a historical campaign figure, not a current IKEA wage or an offer available to Roblox players generally.
What was the IKEA Roblox job?
The Co-Worker Game was an IKEA-branded virtual experience on Roblox, developed by Swedish game design company The Gang. Its activities borrowed from store work: players could help customers, move between departments, serve virtual food in the Swedish Food Market and Bistro, and arrange showrooms with IKEA products. IKEA offered 10 people paid, fully remote virtual co-worker roles connected to the campaign; other players could explore and play, but were not thereby paid workers. Ingka Group’s June 5, 2024 announcement described the roles and experience.
The opportunity was a recruitment promotion set in a game, not employment with Roblox. IKEA said Roblox was not affiliated with the promotion and was not responsible for compensation or rewards; participation did not create an employment or worker relationship with Roblox. The distinction matters: the game’s presence on Roblox did not mean Roblox hired or paid its players.
How much did the selected workers earn?
IKEA announced a rate of £13.15 per hour, describing it as the London co-worker hourly rate at the time. This was real-money pay for selected roles, not Robux. The figure belongs to the 2024 campaign and should not be read as IKEA’s current wage rate. The announcements do not state how many hours or shifts each person worked, so they do not establish total earnings or benefits. IKEA Ireland’s campaign announcement also set out the advertised rate.

How many people were hired?
IKEA said more than 178,000 people applied and 10 candidates were selected. That is 10 selected candidates—not 178,000 openings, and not a promise that playing the game could lead to a paid role. The company’s June 2024 post reported the selection figure as the game opened.

Can you apply now?
No current application round is established by the available announcements: the 2024 deadline passed, and the sources do not confirm whether The Co-Worker Game is still accessible or whether IKEA has opened new paid roles. Treat claims that the old job is available now as unverified unless IKEA publishes a new, dated vacancy through its official channels.
Did IKEA later run another Roblox activity?
Yes, but it was a different project and not a reopening of the paid Co-Worker Game roles. In May 2026, Ingka Group described a separate two-week product trial in Welcome to Bloxburg. Players could unlock virtual IKEA furnishings, including a starter set of six products and an additional shark product requested by the game’s developer. A QR-code treasure hunt in IKEA stores in Sweden and Australia unlocked other virtual products. The announcement characterized this as a test, not paid employment. Ingka Group’s May 22, 2026 account explains the trial.

What did IKEA say the campaign was meant to show?
IKEA presented the game as a way to explore its work culture and the possibility of moving between roles. Darren Taylor, IKEA UK and Ireland’s Country People and Culture Manager, said: “At IKEA, there is no set route to career progression. Our co-workers are able to change roles, switch departments, and grow in any direction they choose, both in the game or in the real world.” That describes IKEA’s career philosophy; it is not a guarantee that playing Roblox leads to a job.
An Epica Awards interview published in March 2025 reported findings from a voluntary survey sent to applicants, with a screener for people who had played the game. Among the 15,000 survey respondents, 72% said the game made them think more positively about a real IKEA career, 70% agreed IKEA was a place where it was easy to switch departments, and 85% thought IKEA would be a great place to work in real life. These are responses from that survey group, not all applicants or all players. The interview also reported a 50% increase in real job applications, but did not provide enough methodological detail to establish that the game alone caused the increase. The Epica Awards interview gives the campaign results and survey context.
