The year did bring a surge in overall memecoin trading and large year-end valuations for four of the tokens, but neither market activity nor a token’s valuation shows what individual investors earned.
What does the “millionaire-makers” claim actually establish?
The headline suggests that these five tokens made investors millionaires during 2024. The available figures do not prove that. To establish an individual outcome, you would need evidence about a person’s purchase price, amount bought, sale price, timing, and costs. Aggregate valuations and trading volumes do not provide that information.
For context, Bitbond reported a 526% year-to-date return for a memecoin category comprising DOGE, WIF, and PEPE from January to mid-June 2024. That is a category figure for a limited period—not a return for all five tokens, a typical investor’s result, or proof that anyone realized a million-dollar gain.
What the 2024 market figures show—and what they do not
CoinGecko reported that average daily memecoin trading volume rose from $1.1 billion in 2023 to $9.7 billion in 2024, and that volume peaked at $87.4 billion after Robinhood and Coinbase announced WIF and PEPE listings. These are figures for memecoins as a market, not returns for DOGE, SHIB, PEPE, BBG, or BONK holders. Trading volume measures activity; it does not show whether buyers or sellers made money.

Binance Research reported the following fully diluted valuations for four of the named tokens as of December 31, 2024:
| Token | Fully diluted valuation at Dec. 31, 2024 | What the cited evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| DOGE | $51.8 billion | Year-end valuation snapshot; it does not establish investor returns. A later SEC filing also describes a December 2024 node incident; see the network-risk section below. |
| SHIB | $12.8 billion | Year-end valuation snapshot. The Sandbox also announced purchasing SHIB; that announcement does not establish performance or safety. |
| PEPE | $7.7 billion | Year-end valuation snapshot. CoinGecko linked the market-wide volume peak to listing announcements for WIF and PEPE, and The Sandbox announced a purchase of PEPE. |
| BONK | $2.3 billion | Year-end valuation snapshot. The Sandbox also announced purchasing BONK; the cited sources do not provide investor-level returns. |
| BBG | Not reported in Binance Research’s year-end table | The title-matching Crypto Daily article identifies BBG as Barbie Girl and says it entered the industry on October 31, 2023. Its authoritative identity and token details are not independently established here. |
A fully diluted valuation is a dated valuation measure, not the cash investors could collectively receive by selling, and not the profit any buyer made. The figures above are historical snapshots rather than current price guidance.

What is known about each named token?
DOGE
The year-end valuation provides market context, not evidence of a millionaire-making return. A separate point relevant to assessing the network is a vulnerability incident described in a 2026 SEC filing: a December 2024 Dogecoin Core vulnerability caused approximately 69% of active nodes to crash. The filing says block production continued through unaffected nodes, so this should not be described as the whole network stopping.
SHIB
The cited evidence establishes a year-end valuation and an organizational purchase announcement, not the returns earned by SHIB holders. It does not establish what an individual buyer paid or later received.

PEPE appears in the year-end valuation table and in CoinGecko’s account of listing announcements associated with the memecoin market’s volume peak. The Sandbox also announced a PEPE purchase. Those facts document attention and organizational activity, not a profit for a particular holder.
BBG
The title-matching Crypto Daily article calls BBG “Barbie Girl” and states an October 31, 2023 entry date. The available evidence does not independently confirm the token’s contract, chain, or authoritative project identity. That uncertainty means the name alone is not a reliable basis for identifying a tradable asset.

BONK
Binance Research’s year-end valuation and The Sandbox’s announced purchase provide market and organizational context. The cited evidence does not establish an investor-level return for BONK.

The Sandbox announced in June 2024 that it purchased PEPE, SHIB, DOGE, and BONK to support their communities and its Web3 presence. This is evidence of The Sandbox’s stated rationale for its own action. It is not a recommendation, a safety assessment, or proof that the purchase—or another buyer’s purchase—was profitable.

A 2025 SEC filing describes memecoins generally as inspired by internet memes or trends and says most have no stated use case or intrinsic value beyond digital-collector-item status. That is a broad characterization in the filing, not a definitive description of every named token or of any ecosystem as it changes.
What would you need to verify a millionaire-making return?
For a token to turn a particular buyer’s position into a million dollars, the buyer would need to hold enough units, bought at a sufficiently low cost, and be able to sell them at a sufficiently high price. A headline valuation cannot answer those questions. A serious claim about realized millionaire outcomes would need evidence such as:
- Which token and contract the claim concerns, particularly where the project identity is uncertain.
- The purchase and sale dates, quantities, and prices for the investor or cohort being described.
- Whether the result is realized after selling or only a paper gain based on a quoted price.
- Relevant transaction costs, taxes, liquidity, and any limits on selling the stated quantity.
Without that information, “millionaire-maker” is a promotional framing, not a verified account of investor outcomes. The supplied historical market metrics cannot support a forecast about future performance.
