Yes. Cineplex confirmed an average ticket-price increase of 25 cents across Canada in late 2024, with the amount varying by ticket type. That report does not establish a new nationwide increase to ordinary admission prices in 2026: Cineplex’s announced July 2026 changes apply to CineClub membership and member-priced tickets, not general admission.
What Cineplex confirmed about general admission
On December 2, 2024, MobileSyrup reported that Cineplex had raised ticket prices. Daily Hive quoted a Cineplex spokesperson saying prices had recently increased by an average of $0.25 across the country, depending on ticket type. The company attributed the increase to higher operating costs, including leasing, utilities and labour. That is Cineplex’s explanation, not a published breakdown of how much each cost contributed.

The reported price examples were local, not a national rate card. MobileSyrup cited $16 standard admission in the Toronto area and said the usual prior general-admission price was $14.25, excluding a $1 premium it described for the popular film Dune: Part Two. Prices vary by theatre and ticket type, so those figures should not be applied to every Cineplex location or show.

What changed in 2026—and what did not
Cineplex’s official notice for changes effective July 15, 2026 concerns CineClub, its membership program. It raises the monthly membership price from $9.99 to $10.99 and the annual price from $109.89 to $120.89. It also raises everyday member-priced tickets from $9.99 to $10.99. The notice includes transition rules for existing annual and gifted members.
These are changes to membership and a price available to CineClub members, not confirmation of a new increase to ordinary general-admission prices nationwide. The available 2026 figures do not establish a current national standard-ticket rate or a separate 2026 general-admission hike. Cineplex’s CineClub program update has the official terms.

Cineplex reported that box-office revenue per patron was $12.94 in Q1 2026, compared with $12.14 in Q1 2025, an increase of 6.6%. That is revenue per patron, not the price of a standard ticket; it can reflect the mix of tickets and other factors. It does not by itself prove a 2026 general-admission price increase. Cineplex’s Q1 2026 report gives the company’s figure.
Why your checkout total may differ
A ticket total depends on more than the base price. When comparing two showings, check the specific theatre and location, ticket category, showtime, film or format surcharge, purchase channel and any discount that applies. Premium formats can cost more, and online purchases may have a booking fee. These charges and discounts are separate from a change to ordinary admission prices.

For example, a Cineplex Scene+ offer ran March 13–16, 2026, listing $9.99 general admission in theatre and online Scene+ tickets at $10.99 before tax, including a $1 online booking fee; premium formats cost extra. That limited-time promotion expired and should not be treated as today’s general price. Cineplex’s offer page describes its terms.
Booking fees are a separate issue
The legal dispute over Cineplex’s online booking fee concerns how the fee was presented, not whether ordinary ticket prices rose. In September 2024, the Competition Tribunal found that presenting the mandatory $1.50 online booking fee in a way that made advertised prices unattainable constituted drip pricing. The Competition Bureau said the Tribunal ordered a penalty of more than $38.9 million plus costs.

Cineplex’s Q1 2026 report says the Federal Court of Appeal upheld the decision on January 23, 2026, and the company sought leave to appeal to the Supreme Court on March 23, 2026. Payment was stayed pending that application, so the ordered penalty should not be described as a final amount already paid. The Competition Bureau’s announcement and Cineplex’s Q1 2026 report describe the case and subsequent appeal status.

Cineplex’s offers can change, so check the terms and eligible locations before buying. Its deals page lists Big Deal Tuesdays, including an additional 10% Tuesday ticket-price saving for Scene+ members, and a Virgin Plus 2-for-1 offer stated to run through December 13, 2026. The page says offers are subject to change without notice.
