Futurism reported in 2022 that a Tumblr account using the handle “worldoptimization” was probably Caroline Ellison’s, pointing to a link from the blog to her Twitter account and dates that appeared to align. That is a reported inference, not a confirmed identification: the available account of the story does not independently authenticate who owned the Tumblr.
What the 2022 report said
In an article updated November 14, 2022, Futurism’s Noor Al-Sibai identified a Tumblr blog using the handle “worldoptimization” as likely belonging to Ellison, the former FTX executive. The report’s central clue was that the Tumblr account linked to Ellison’s Twitter account in March 2021; the article also said the account and posting dates appeared to fit. Read the Futurism report.
The article itself framed the conclusion as an inference, describing the identification as something that “does seem” likely. A link to a social account and a compatible timeline can support a hypothesis, but neither alone proves who created or controlled a Tumblr account.
What is established—and what is not
Reported evidence
- The account in question used the handle “worldoptimization.”
- Futurism said the Tumblr blog linked to Ellison’s Twitter account in March 2021.
- The report said dates associated with the account appeared consistent with its identification.
Unconfirmed ownership
The material available for this account of the story does not include a platform confirmation, an authenticated statement from Ellison, or another primary record establishing ownership. The evidence should therefore be described as Futurism’s reported basis for a likely identification—not as proof that the Tumblr belonged to Ellison.

What happened to the Tumblr page?
Futurism said the blog had been deleted but was accessible through the Wayback Machine when its article was published. That is a description of its status in the 2022 report, not confirmation that the archived page remains available today.
How to read claims about the blog and FTX
The account’s purported posts should not be treated as verified statements by Ellison when the account’s authorship is itself unconfirmed. Likewise, the article’s wider discussion of workplace relationships and speculation about a “polycule” is separate from the account-identification clue. Futurism said it could not substantiate parts of that surrounding context, so speculation about private relationships should not be repeated as established fact.
