Yes. In September 2023, TheWrap reported that Byron Allen had offered Disney $10 billion for a package including ABC—not ABC alone. The reported package also included ABC’s local stations, FX, and National Geographic. Disney said it was considering strategic options but had made no decision to sell. The reporting does not establish that Disney accepted the offer or that Allen acquired any of the assets.
What did Byron Allen reportedly offer to buy?
TheWrap reported on September 15, 2023, that an Allen spokesperson confirmed a $10 billion offer to Disney. Bloomberg Law also described the proposal as tentative. The reported figure is the offer amount, not a final sale price.
The package reportedly extended beyond ABC’s national broadcast network:
| Asset type | Assets reportedly included |
|---|---|
| National broadcast network | ABC |
| Local television stations | ABC’s local stations |
| Cable networks | FX and National Geographic |
TheWrap’s account attributed confirmation of the offer to an Allen spokesperson; Bloomberg Law characterized it as tentative. The reviewed reports do not establish the proposal’s precise legal terms.

Did Disney accept the offer or sell ABC to Allen?
No completed sale or accepted offer is established by the cited reporting. In September 2023, Disney said it was “open to considering a variety of strategic options,” while also saying it had made no decision to sell ABC or another property. Its openness to options was not an announcement that it had accepted Allen’s proposal.
Later reporting and records are consistent with Disney retaining ABC. PolitiFact reported on December 3, 2024, that Disney still owned ABC and had made no public response to Allen’s offer. A notice dated April 28, 2026, concerning early renewal applications for Disney’s ABC station licenses likewise identifies Disney and ABC in connection with those licenses. The notice was republished by Publicnow; it is evidence about the license-renewal matter, not a report of a new transaction.

What is known about the proposal—and what is not?
The public reports support that Allen made an offer, that the reported amount was $10 billion, and that the proposed package included ABC, its local stations, FX, and National Geographic. They do not establish a signed purchase agreement, Disney’s acceptance, definitive closing conditions, or a completed acquisition.
Allen said he had access to capital, but that statement does not by itself establish financing commitments for the proposal. The available reporting also does not establish a final regulatory outcome for a transaction that was not shown to have been completed.
