Yes. Bucherer announced that it had acquired Tourneau LLC on January 31, 2018; the transaction closed on April 9, 2018, according to adviser Houlihan Lokey. The deal gave the Swiss luxury watch retailer a U.S. presence. It was a corporate acquisition, not a change readers should confuse with Rolex’s later acquisition of Bucherer.
What happened, and when did the deal close?
Bucherer announced the acquisition on January 31, 2018. The seller was an investor group led by Green Equity Investors IV, an affiliate of Leonard Green & Partners. Houlihan Lokey, which advised Tourneau, records the closing date as April 9, 2018.
The announcement and closing are separate milestones: January 31 was the public announcement; April 9 was the reported completion. The announcement and Houlihan Lokey’s transaction record do not disclose the purchase price or detailed financial terms.
What did Tourneau look like at the time?
In the 2018 announcement, Tourneau was described as a New York-based luxury watch retailer founded in 1900, with 28 locations across 10 states and an e-commerce website. Those are figures from the announcement, not a current store count. The same announcement said Tourneau had more than four million visitors each year; that figure is the company announcement’s claim, not an independently verified current statistic.

Houlihan Lokey’s account of the business at the time describes an assortment of over 8,000 unique styles from over 100 world-famous brands. This, too, is a historical description rather than a current inventory figure.
Why did Bucherer say it bought Tourneau?
Bucherer said the acquisition would establish a U.S. footprint and extend its fine-watch and jewelry offering to the United States. In the announcement, Bucherer Group CEO Guido Zumbül described Tourneau as an opportunity for the group’s U.S. expansion. That explains Bucherer’s stated rationale; it is not an independent assessment of the deal’s financial performance.

How does the acquisition fit with Bucherer and Rolex today?
Bucherer’s company history identifies the Tourneau takeover as part of its U.S. expansion in 2018 and says Bucherer became part of Rolex in 2024. These are two distinct transactions: Bucherer acquired Tourneau in 2018, and Rolex later acquired Bucherer. Tourneau’s current company page uses Tourneau/Bucherer branding and lists authorized watch retail, certified pre-owned watches, service, and watch sales.
