Berkshire Hathaway’s latest reported holdings snapshot was dated June 30, 2026, but the company did not file it publicly until August 14—after Apple announced its fiscal third-quarter results on July 30. The filing shows Berkshire’s holdings at quarter-end; it does not show when any shares were sold. So the available dates do not establish that Berkshire cut its Apple stake before the earnings announcement.
What the dates show
| Event | Date | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Apple fiscal Q3 2026 quarter ended | June 27, 2026 | The end date of the quarter covered by Apple’s results. |
| Berkshire holdings measured | June 30, 2026 | The date of the holdings snapshot in Berkshire’s Form 13F, according to the SEC filing index. |
| Apple announced fiscal Q3 2026 results | July 30, 2026 | Apple’s announcement came after the quarter covered by the results. The company reported $109.4 billion in revenue and diluted earnings per share of $2.02 in its July 30 results release. |
| Berkshire filed its Form 13F | August 14, 2026 | The public filing came after Apple’s announcement; the SEC index identifies August 14 as the filing date. |
These are three different points in time: Apple’s quarter-end, Berkshire’s holdings measurement date, and the public release of Apple’s earnings. The later filing date does not move the holdings snapshot forward, and neither date reveals when Berkshire traded.
Does a 13F show when Berkshire sold Apple shares?
No. A Form 13F is a periodic disclosure of certain reportable holdings at a specified reporting date. Berkshire’s filing reports its position as of June 30, 2026; it is not a transaction-by-transaction record. It cannot, on its own, establish the date of a sale, how many shares were sold during a particular interval, or whether a change occurred before or after Apple’s July 30 announcement.
The filing is Berkshire Hathaway’s institutional disclosure, so it is more precise to describe it as Berkshire’s reported holding than as a personal trade by Warren Buffett. The evidence here does not include a statement from Buffett explaining an Apple sale or attributing the decision to him.

What Berkshire’s and Apple’s reports establish
Berkshire still listed Apple among its largest holdings
Berkshire’s second-quarter Form 10-Q identifies Apple as one of its five largest holdings as of June 30, 2026. That establishes Apple remained a significant reported position at that date; it does not establish the size or timing of any reduction. The Berkshire Form 10-Q provides that quarter-end context.
Apple reported a record June quarter
Apple’s July 30 release reported $109.4 billion in revenue and $2.02 diluted earnings per share for fiscal Q3 2026. CEO Tim Cook said, “Today, Apple is proud to report our strongest June quarter ever, with double-digit revenue growth across iPhone, Mac and Services, and in every geographic segment.” CFO Kevan Parekh said the quarter set new June-quarter records for diluted earnings per share and operating cash flow. Those are Apple’s descriptions of its results, not an explanation of Berkshire’s investment decisions.

Berkshire’s earnings are not Apple-specific
Berkshire reported $25.667 billion in net earnings attributable to Berkshire shareholders for the second quarter of 2026. That is a consolidated company result, not earnings from Apple alone. Berkshire’s second-quarter report is the source for the figure; it should not be read as a measure of Apple’s contribution to Berkshire without separate supporting detail.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would confirm a stake reduction?
To establish whether Berkshire held fewer Apple shares than in the prior quarter, compare the Apple share counts in consecutive Berkshire 13F filings. Use share count rather than reported market value: a position’s dollar value can change when Apple’s share price moves even if the number of shares stays the same. A quarter-to-quarter difference would establish that the reported holdings changed between snapshots, but would not by itself pinpoint the trade dates within that period.
