Gross is ticket revenue reported for theatrical exhibition; it is not the amount a studio keeps and does not, by itself, establish whether a film made a profit. Theater splits, distribution and marketing costs, and other financial details are not captured by comparing these gross totals. The figures support a comparison of reported ticket sales, not a conclusion about either film’s net earnings.

At the time, Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian described the September market as “a bit of a sleepy month” and said one film generated around 47% of revenue that weekend; he expected October to deliver blockbusters. That was his observation in September 2024, not a current market statistic, as reported by the Associated Press.
