Yes—according to a March 25, 2025 report by Video Games Chronicle (VGC), Assassin’s Creed Shadows sold more physical copies in the UK during its first week than Star Wars Outlaws sold there in its first three months. The comparison is limited to UK physical sales; it does not establish that Shadows outsold Outlaws worldwide, across digital and physical formats, or over their full lifetimes.
What the sales comparison says—and what it does not
Shadows launched on March 20, 2025. VGC’s report, published five days later, said its first-week UK physical sales exceeded Outlaws’ UK physical sales in that game’s first three months. VGC attributed the figures to GfK/Nielsen data provided through The Game Business.
The report did not publish the underlying unit counts or a precise margin. That means the evidence supports the direction of the comparison, but not a claim about how many more copies Shadows sold. It also does not support turning the result into a global or all-format sales ranking.
Why the distinction matters
Sales comparisons are meaningful only when their scope is clear. Here, the games are compared on boxed UK copies, but over different periods: one week for Shadows and three months for Outlaws. The cited report does not provide matching worldwide totals or digital-sales figures for both games over those windows.

How Shadows compares with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
VGC separately reported that Shadows’ UK physical launch sales were 63% of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s November 2020 launch sales. That figure is useful context, but not a clean like-for-like measure: Valhalla had physical releases on more platforms, and VGC noted that demand for software was elevated during the COVID-era period.
Ubisoft offered a different measure in its FY2024–25 earnings release, published May 14, 2025: Shadows generated the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in franchise history, behind Valhalla. Ubisoft also said consumer spending and player count had outperformed Assassin’s Creed Odyssey at that point. Those company-wide revenue and player measures are not UK physical unit counts, so they cannot be used to calculate the Shadows–Outlaws gap.

Sales, revenue and players are different measures
Ubisoft announced that Shadows had reached two million players, then later reported more than five million unique players in a July 22, 2025 update. Player totals are not equivalent to copies sold: they can reflect access that does not map one-to-one to a purchase, and Ubisoft’s earlier announcement did not include a platform breakdown.
Outlaws’ early performance also drew a qualitative assessment from Ubisoft. In its September 2024 trading update, CEO Yves Guillemot said the game’s initial sales “proved softer than expected.” Ubisoft did not give a copy total in that statement. It helps explain the company’s view of Outlaws’ launch, but does not quantify the later UK physical-sales comparison.

What can be concluded
The reported result is a specific early UK retail comparison: Shadows’ first-week physical sales topped Outlaws’ first-three-month physical sales, according to VGC’s account of GfK/Nielsen data supplied via The Game Business. Exact unit totals are not stated in the cited report, and the available figures do not establish which game had higher lifetime sales across all markets and formats.
