No. Argentina’s agriculture ministry reported that agricultural exports rose 8.5% in 2022 compared with 2021, reaching US$49.581 billion—not 85%. The figure comes from the ministry’s 2 February 2023 release, which reports the historical 2022 result.
What Argentina reported for agricultural exports
The Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca de la Nación said agricultural exports totaled US$49.581 billion in 2022, up 8.5% year over year. The 85% figure in the headline is a decimal-place error. The ministry’s release does not provide a price-versus-quantity breakdown for this agricultural-export total, so the 8.5% increase should not be attributed specifically to prices or export volumes.
Export value can change because prices change, quantities change, or both. The distinction matters when interpreting a percentage increase: a higher dollar value does not necessarily mean that more goods were shipped.
Which agricultural categories grew most?
The ministry’s 2023 release reported markedly different changes among products and grouped categories:

| Product or category | 2022 export value | Change from 2021 |
|---|---|---|
| Meat and dairy | US$5.508 billion | +20.7% |
| Wheat | US$4.723 billion | +35.4% |
| Sunflower, barley, and sorghum combined | US$3.557 billion | +41.4% |
| Soy | US$22.279 billion | +2.5% |
| Maize | US$9.543 billion | +2.7% |
The 41.4% increase applies to sunflower, barley, and sorghum together—not to agricultural exports overall. Wheat and meat and dairy also grew faster than soy and maize in percentage terms, while soy had the largest listed export value.
Why the agricultural total differs from Argentina’s total exports
Argentina’s foreign ministry reported that all goods exports reached US$88.446 billion in 2022, up 13.5%. It said prices increased 16.2% while quantities declined 2.3%. Those figures describe the broader goods-export series, not the agriculture ministry’s US$49.581 billion agricultural-export total.
The two series should not be added together or substituted for each other. They have different scopes and reporting classifications. The foreign ministry also reported US$33.119 billion in agro-manufactures exports and US$23.868 billion in primary-product exports; those are customs/trade categories, not interchangeable measures of the agriculture ministry’s agricultural-export total. Separately, it reported a record US$24.174 billion in soybean-complex exports. That trade category is not the same figure as the agriculture ministry’s US$22.279 billion soy-export figure.

- For the direct answer to whether agricultural exports rose 85%, use the agriculture ministry’s figure: 8.5%, to US$49.581 billion in 2022.
- Keep the year-over-year growth rate alongside its category and value; product-level results varied substantially.
- Do not treat value growth as volume growth. The foreign ministry’s price-and-quantity explanation applies to total goods exports, not automatically to the agriculture ministry’s agricultural series.
- Identify the source and classification whenever comparing totals. The agriculture ministry’s agricultural total and the foreign ministry’s goods, agro-manufactures, primary-product, and soybean-complex figures measure different scopes.
These are historical figures reported in Argentine ministry releases in January and February 2023. The cited releases establish what those ministries reported at the time; they do not establish whether a later revision changed the historical series.
