A November 2007 report attributed the discussions and a concern about AGEIA’s valuation to AMD graphics executive Richard Huddy. NVIDIA later acquired AGEIA in February 2008.
Did AMD almost buy AGEIA?
Not on the evidence available. Engadget reported on November 21, 2007, relaying coverage from Custom PC, that AMD executives had repeatedly discussed whether to acquire AGEIA. Huddy described the question as coming up “every three months” and said he weighed arguments for and against a purchase. His remarks establish reported internal discussion, not a formal bid or near-completed deal. Engadget’s 2007 report

Why didn’t AMD buy AGEIA?
The report identified price as the main obstacle. Huddy reportedly considered AGEIA’s valuation too high. That is his attributed view in a contemporaneous account, not a published AMD valuation or proof of a negotiated transaction. The report does not establish that AMD submitted an offer, obtained board approval, or entered advanced negotiations.

Who acquired AGEIA, and when?
NVIDIA acquired AGEIA on February 10, 2008, according to NVIDIA’s FY2009 Form 10-K. AGEIA developed PhysX, a technology for gaming physics. Announcement-era coverage described NVIDIA’s acquisition but said the purchase price had not been disclosed at the time. NVIDIA FY2009 Form 10-K ITmedia News, February 5, 2008

How much did NVIDIA pay for AGEIA?
NVIDIA’s later FY2009 filing reported approximately $29.7 million in aggregate consideration for AGEIA. That figure comes from the financial filing, not from a price disclosed in the February 2008 announcement. The two accounts refer to different stages of reporting and are consistent.
