The widely repeated “$29 million” figure refers to its original $28.9 million asking price when Keaton listed it on March 24, 2025—not the final sale price. The home’s asking price was later reduced to $22.9 million.
What happened to Diane Keaton’s $29 million home?
Realtor.com reported the initial $28.9 million listing in March 2025. Architectural Digest reported in August 2026 that the property had sold for $18 million, with the buyer unidentified. The $22.9 million figure was the later asking price, not the reported closing price.
| Stage | Price | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Initial listing, March 2025 | $28.9 million | Original asking price, reported by Realtor.com. |
| Later listing | $22.9 million | Reduced asking price, reported by Architectural Digest in June 2026. |
| Reported sale, August 2026 | $18 million | Sale price reported by Architectural Digest; the buyer was not identified. |
The reported sale was $10.9 million below the original asking price and $4.9 million below the later ask. Those differences compare list prices with the reported sale price; they do not establish the seller’s net proceeds, which would depend on transaction costs and other details not reported in the cited coverage. Architectural Digest’s sale report is a media account rather than a deed or other primary transaction record.
What the property includes
Architectural Digest describes the custom-built farmhouse as 9,200 square feet, with five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a separate guesthouse, and a pool. Keaton bought the property in 2011, but published accounts disagree on the purchase price: Architectural Digest’s August 2026 sale story says $4.7 million, while its June 2026 listing story gives $5.65 million. Neither figure should be treated as settled without a consistent transaction record.

How Pinterest influenced the design
Keaton collected ideas on Pinterest, and the house became the subject of her 2017 book, The House That Pinterest Built. The design story was broader than a digital mood board: Realtor.com reported that Keaton also drew inspiration from a New York apartment where she had lived, the childhood story The Three Little Pigs, and her desire for a brick home. Architectural Digest reports that the custom-built house used 75,000 reclaimed Chicago bricks.
Brick, texture, and farmhouse details
Architectural Digest’s June 2026 feature describes a brick exterior, exposed beams, and French doors opening onto a brick patio. The skylit kitchen combines white brick and weathered metal fixtures in a black-and-white palette. In the library, white shelves frame a black staircase.

In a 2017 Architectural Digest home tour, reproduced in its 2026 sale story, Keaton described her approach this way: “I follow my impulses just like I did with acting.” She recalled initially considering painting the bricks white, then growing fond of their texture and imperfections. That account helps explain why the finished house retained the brick instead of following a purely black-and-white scheme.
A book documenting the project
The House That Pinterest Built was published in 2017 and documents the project. It is a natural next step for readers interested in Keaton’s design process; the property details and sale timeline above are reported by Realtor.com and Architectural Digest.

What is known—and not known—about the sale
Architectural Digest reported an $18 million sale and said the buyer was unidentified. Its report does not establish the buyer’s identity or provide a primary transaction document. The available coverage also does not give a basis for comparing the price with similar nearby homes, so the figures here describe this property’s own listing-to-sale timeline rather than a market-wide valuation.
Listing agent Josh Flagg praised Keaton’s design vision in Architectural Digest, describing her ability to see potential in a property. That is the agent’s assessment, not an independently measured credential.
