How to interpret the grosses
These are reported worldwide theatrical grosses in nominal dollars, not inflation-adjusted totals or estimates of a studio’s profit. Gross box-office receipts are not the same as revenue retained by a distributor or the film’s net earnings.
For dated context, NBCUniversal said on July 12, 2024, that the franchise had passed $5 billion in global box office and that Despicable Me 4 opened with $230 million worldwide. Those are studio-reported statements from that date: the franchise milestone is not a current cumulative total, and the opening figure is not the film’s final gross.
