Delta is signaling that Asia-Pacific will be a bigger focus for future long-haul growth than adding many more European destinations. As of The Points Guy’s August 14, 2026 report, Delta had resumed Hong Kong service and announced a nonstop Manila route. A return to Singapore was executive intent, not a formally announced route. Delta is not abandoning Europe: the same reporting noted planned Austin–Paris service for 2027 and Atlanta–Riyadh service set to begin October 23, 2026.
What new Asia routes is Delta adding?
The route developments do not all have the same status. The August 14, 2026 report from The Points Guy said Delta had resumed service to Hong Kong and announced a new nonstop Manila route. It also quoted Delta chief commercial officer Joe Esposito saying, “We’re going to be back in Singapore,” but noted that no Singapore route had been formally announced at publication.
| Destination | Status in reporting | What travelers should know |
|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong (HKG) | Service resumed in summer 2026, according to The Points Guy’s August report. | The report said it was Delta’s first Hong Kong service since 2018. |
| Manila (MNL) | Delta announced a new nonstop route, according to the August report. | The report did not establish a launch date, origin, or frequency. |
| Singapore (SIN) | Esposito said Delta would return, but no formal route announcement had been made by August 14, 2026. | A Seattle origin was speculation in the report, not a published Delta schedule. The report said Esposito ruled out Los Angeles nonstop service. |
| Additional Seoul (ICN) service | A June 2026 report described it as a reported plan, not a confirmed schedule. | The reported possibilities were service from New York-JFK and Los Angeles; timing was unknown, and Delta declined comment to that publisher. |
The earlier June report from The Points Guy described Manila, Singapore, and additional Seoul service as plans, with timing and origins unknown at the time. For Seoul, it specifically characterized the proposed additions as reported plans rather than confirmed schedules.
Is Delta flying to Singapore?
Esposito’s statement signals an intention to restore Singapore service, but it is not the same as a route announcement with dates and flights for sale. The August 14 report said no formal route had been announced by then. Its discussion of Seattle as a possible origin was an expectation, not a Delta schedule; it also reported that Esposito ruled out a Los Angeles nonstop.

Because route announcements can change after an article is published, check Delta’s current timetable before making plans. The distinction to watch is whether Delta publishes an actual route and schedule, rather than whether an executive has expressed an intention or a report has described a possibility.
Why is Delta focusing on Asia instead of Europe?
Delta’s explanation is about relative access, not a decision to stop serving Europe. Esposito told The Points Guy: “There’s still unique destinations to fly to,” referring to Europe, “But we have really great access already. We don’t have as much access to Asia.” He also described Asia as “where we have opportunity for growth in the future.”

The report points to Delta’s partnerships with Air France, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic as a way to connect travelers onward across Europe. Delta sees more room to add direct access to major Asian cities. In other words, the strategy favors filling gaps in the Asia network while using existing service and partners to provide broad European access.
How might Delta build its Asia network?
The August report described Delta’s West Coast hubs in Los Angeles and Seattle as potential mainland-U.S. launch points for trans-Pacific routes. That does not establish which hub will serve Manila, Singapore, or any other proposed destination; Delta’s published schedules are needed to confirm each origin.

The strategy also differs from simply rebuilding Delta’s former Narita-centered network. Delta inherited Northwest Airlines’ Asia network when it acquired Northwest in 2008, then reduced its Asia presence during the 2010s as it expanded transatlantic service. The current approach described in the report is to operate direct services from the mainland United States, supported by West Coast hubs, rather than treat Narita as the overseas hub for a broad network.

No. Asia is a relative growth priority, not the only region where Delta plans to add service. The Points Guy’s August report also mentioned Austin–Paris service planned for 2027. Separately, Delta’s official route listing describes Atlanta–Riyadh service beginning October 23, 2026. Those plans are consistent with a shift in emphasis toward Asia without a complete retreat from European or other international growth.

What to verify before booking
- Look for a published Delta route and bookable travel dates; executive comments and reported plans do not establish that flights are on sale.
- Confirm the departure airport, launch date, and operating schedule on Delta’s timetable. The reports do not establish these details for all prospective routes.
- For Manila and Hong Kong, distinguish the announced or resumed service described in August 2026 from the schedule currently available for your travel dates.
- For Singapore and additional Seoul flights, treat them as unconfirmed unless Delta has since published a formal announcement and schedule.
