DataChambers agreed to be acquired by North State Communications, according to a report published December 15, 2011. The announcement described a strategic expansion of North State’s business communications and data services, but the report did not provide a closing date or purchase price. It also said Data-Chambers Records Management was excluded from the deal.

What North State agreed to acquire

DataCenterKnowledge reported that DataChambers had agreed to be acquired by North State Communications. The target was a provider of colocation and managed services, including data storage, managed IT, and secure colocation for mission-critical infrastructure. The report described the company’s campus in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as operating approximately 120,000 square feet of data-center and disaster-recovery space. That figure describes the facilities as reported in 2011, not their current size.

The deal’s scope did not include Data-Chambers Records Management, which the report said would remain with the then-current owners. It did not identify those owners.

Why North State said it wanted the deal

North State said the acquisition would diversify its business and revenue mix and strengthen its business communications and data offerings in the Piedmont Triad and beyond. In the announcement, then-chairman and CEO Hayden McKenzie described the goal as becoming a preferred provider of business communications and data solutions across the Triad and beyond. DataChambers CEO Nicholas Kottyan said the combination could create growth opportunities for DataChambers customers and additional value for North State customers and shareholders.

In practical terms, the reported strategic fit paired North State’s stated interest in broadening its services with DataChambers’ colocation, managed IT, storage, and data-center operations. These were the companies’ stated rationale and reported assets; the article did not quantify expected revenue, cost savings, or other financial effects.

What is known about the transaction—and what is not

The December 15, 2011 DataCenterKnowledge article reported an agreement to be acquired. It does not establish when the transaction closed or independently confirm its completion. It also gives no purchase price or final legal terms, so those details cannot be reliably stated from that report.
