Databricks announced its plan to bring Tecton into the company on August 22, 2025, aiming to add Tecton’s real-time feature serving to the Databricks platform for production machine learning and AI agents. Databricks now lists Tecton as acquired. Here, “context” means fresh enterprise data relevant to a task—such as transaction patterns or risk scores—not an agent’s memory of earlier conversations.
What does Tecton add to Databricks?
Databricks describes Tecton as a real-time enterprise feature store. A feature store organizes model inputs so they can be produced consistently from historical and streaming data, then served to models in production. In its August 22, 2025 announcement, Databricks said Tecton centralizes and automates the creation, sharing, and serving of contextual data for classical machine learning and agent systems. The company presented online data serving as an addition to its data-and-AI workflows, with Agent Bricks as a named integration point.

That is the company’s stated product rationale, not independent evidence of improved performance or business outcomes. The announcement does not establish that every agent deployment will benefit or that Tecton alone supplies all information an agent needs.

How can real-time data give an AI agent context?
An agent’s answer or action can depend on facts that change quickly. In Databricks’ fraud-detection example, an agent could use current transaction patterns, merchant risk scores, and user signals when assessing suspicious activity. These are examples of data that may inform a decision; they are not proof that a particular deployment will detect more fraud.

Databricks also named risk scoring and personalization as use cases. In each case, the intended role of a feature store is to make relevant model inputs available consistently when a model or agent is used in production. The announcement describes the intended fit but does not provide a neutral comparison with other systems.
What performance figures did Databricks report?
Databricks reported sub-10 ms latency, sub-100 ms freshness, and 99.99% uptime in its 2025 announcement. These are vendor claims; the announcement does not give an independent benchmark methodology or the deployment conditions needed to treat them as general guarantees.
How is real-time data different from agent memory?
Real-time feature serving supplies current, task-relevant enterprise signals. Agent memory and sessions address a different problem: retaining information from an interaction or recalling information in a later conversation.

Rank #3
- Managed agent sessions preserve state within an interaction, commonly including the transcript of messages, tool calls, and results.
- Managed agent memory stores durable facts, preferences, and decisions so they can be retrieved in later, separate conversations.
The services can be used separately or together depending on whether an application needs continuity within an interaction, recall across conversations, or both. Databricks’ September 16, 2026 release notes mark both services as Beta, say they are backed by Lakebase, and describe them as usable with agents built on any framework. They are separate from the Tecton feature-serving rationale.
Did Databricks complete the Tecton acquisition?
Databricks’ original announcement said Tecton would soon join the company. The current Databricks Ventures portfolio lists Tecton as “Acquired by Databricks,” supporting the description that Tecton is acquired as of October 4, 2026. The sources do not state the legal closing date, purchase price, or transaction structure.

The acquisition announcement explains Databricks’ intended product fit, but it is not a neutral evaluation of feature-store options. For an organization assessing a system for its own production agents or models, the relevant questions include:
Quick Recap
Best Value
- Can it use the required sources across batch data, streams, and APIs?
- Does freshness and serving latency meet the intended workload under actual operating conditions?
- Are features consistent between model training and production serving, including point-in-time correctness?
- Do governance, access controls, and audit trails meet the organization’s requirements?
- How much operational work does it add, and how well does it integrate with the existing data platform?
- What are measured cost and reliability at the organization’s target scale?
