They do document a small number of relevant government schemes and portals where individual openings can be discovered. Treat these as historical routes—not current vacancies—and check each original listing before relying on its terms.
What was available in 2025—and what was not verified
The evidence supports two specific government internship schemes and several discovery portals, but not a list of ten confirmed employer postings. A portal category or scheme is not itself a job opening, so it would be misleading to present either as one of ten data science vacancies.
The strongest directly relevant example was the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s (MoSPI) National Internship in Official Statistics (NIOS). Its Phase I 2025 notice described 272 internships across Groups A and B. These were official-statistics placements involving areas such as national accounts, indices, energy statistics, sustainable development indicators, environment statistics and surveys—not 272 private-sector data science jobs. Some projects involved statistical analysis and data work, making them potentially relevant adjacent experience. Read the MoSPI 2025 notice and check the NIOS portal information.
MeitY’s Digital India Internship Scheme 2025 was another technology and digital-government pathway. Its document set a minimum duration of two months, extendable up to three months depending on performance, ministry requirements and the intern’s availability. The available scheme information does not establish that every placement was a data science role. Applicants needed to check the cycle’s project list and eligibility rather than assume a match. Historical opportunities and their terms
MoSPI National Internship in Official Statistics (NIOS)
The MoSPI 2025 Phase I application deadline was 16 February 2025, so that cycle is closed. The notice specified a two-to-six-month duration for that cycle and required an end-of-assignment report or paper. These details describe the 2025 offer; they are not terms for a current opening.
Eligibility depended on education level. For example, the official portal information says undergraduate applicants needed to have completed or appeared in second-year/fourth-semester examinations, studied at least one Statistics or Mathematics paper, and earned at least 75% or equivalent in Class 12. Postgraduate and research applicants faced different coursework and marks conditions. Students currently pursuing a degree or research programme were limited to shorter durations under the stated terms. Consult the original notice for the complete rules rather than applying one threshold to every applicant.

MoSPI also makes clear that the award is not an employment offer: “The award of internship to the applicant is not and cannot be construed as any kind of job or assurances for any job in the Government of India.”
MeitY Digital India Internship Scheme
The 2025 scheme offered a technology-policy and digital-government route, not a guaranteed data science placement. Meeting its minimum qualifications did not guarantee selection. Whether a project suited a data science applicant depended on the projects listed for that cycle and the applicant’s eligibility.
Where to look for individual internship postings
AICTE National Internship Portal
The AICTE National Internship Portal includes partner and corporate listings, with a data science category. Its corporate hub notes that employers set eligibility, stipend and duration for individual postings. Use the portal to find leads, then verify the details on the actual listing or employer page; the category alone does not confirm an open vacancy.
ISTI internship directory
The official Indian Science, Technology and Innovation (ISTI) internship directory organizes records by institution, eligibility, area and duration. Listings may belong to different cycles, so confirm dates and application status before treating a record as an active opportunity.

NITI Aayog internship scheme
NITI Aayog’s internship scheme is described as open to undergraduate and postgraduate students and research scholars at recognized institutions in India and abroad. The available scheme information does not establish that a particular 2025 placement was a data science internship. Include it in a data science search only when a relevant project listing is confirmed.

For each individual opening, confirm the role itself and its current status on the official employer or scheme page. Record the terms that affect whether it is a realistic fit:

- Role and work: Is the project hands-on data science, statistics, analytics, or an adjacent policy or technology assignment?
- Location and work mode: Check the stated city and whether the role is on-site, hybrid or remote.
- Eligibility: Match your degree stage, discipline, coursework and marks to that specific posting.
- Stipend and duration: Use only terms published for the individual opening; do not assume portal-wide terms.
- Dates and application route: Check the posting date, deadline, selection steps and official submission link.
Internship listings and application windows expire. A 2025 page that remains searchable is not proof that applications are still open, and a scheme’s general description is not a substitute for a dated project listing.
What a data science applicant should take from the 2025 options
Government statistics and digital-government assignments may build relevant experience, but they are not interchangeable with commercial data science internships. Read the project description for the actual work and avoid inferring a job offer or future government employment from participation in a scheme. For future cycles, use official portals to identify leads, then rely on the current scheme notice or employer posting for eligibility, compensation, duration and deadlines.
