A collection of art and antiques from a Dalkeith home on Jutland Parade was scheduled for two online auctions on November 26 and December 3, 2023. Donelly Auctions director Mat Donelly forecast that the collection could bring in more than $1 million, but the available reporting does not establish which lots sold or what they achieved.
What was the Jutland Parade auction?
In a November 24, 2023 report, PerthNow’s Sarah Makse said the children of a late former shipping magnate and his wife commissioned Donelly Auctions director Mat Donelly to sell the contents of their parents’ opulent Dalkeith home. The family had moved to London in 2014 after the mother’s death, and the contents had remained in storage since then.
The report did not name the former owners. It said the collection came to light when Donelly unpacked the storage locker in 2023 and found art and other objects that had been kept wrapped.

Works listed for auction
The PerthNow preview named two Salvador Dalí sculptures, Dance of Time II and The Space Elephant. It described The Space Elephant as one of 350 recreations worldwide; Donelly expected it to fetch more than $50,000. That figure was his pre-sale estimate, not a confirmed result.

Beyond art, the report listed Argyle pink diamonds, gold and diamond-encrusted jewellery, bronze, fine china, rugs and gold-trimmed furniture.
The Chagall stayed with the family
The family retained a Marc Chagall original, which PerthNow characterized as worth half a million dollars. It was not part of the Perth sale; the report did not provide a verified appraisal for that value.

These figures described specific items or Donelly’s expectation for the collection. They do not establish broader art-market values or Perth market trends. Donelly told PerthNow, “I’m confident the market will soak this up easily in Perth.” That was his confidence before the auctions, not evidence of their outcome.

Donelly Auctions planned two online auctions: Sunday, November 26, 2023, and Sunday, December 3, 2023. The dates and schedule come from the 2023 preview. The available reporting does not confirm which lots sold, their final prices, or whether the collection reached the forecast total.
