Cyber Monday is still a major U.S. online-shopping event, but a large sale does not automatically mean a good deal. The latest completed-event figures available are for 2025: Adobe reported $14.25 billion in U.S. online spending on Cyber Monday, while the National Retail Federation (NRF) estimated 75.9 million online shoppers. Those measures show the event’s scale—not whether a particular item is cheaper than its usual price.
What Cyber Monday is—and how it has changed
The National Retail Federation coined “Cyber Monday” in 2005, according to the Associated Press. It is now part of a longer Thanksgiving-to-Cyber-Monday shopping period, not simply a one-day event. Retailers and shoppers spread promotions across the five-day period, even as Cyber Monday remains a major online-spending day.
For context, Adobe reported that U.S. consumers spent $44.2 billion online during Cyber Week—the five days from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday—in 2025. Across the full November 1–December 31 holiday period, Adobe reported $257.8 billion in online spending. These are completed 2025 results, not forecasts for a future holiday season.
How big Cyber Monday was in 2025
Adobe reported $14.25 billion in U.S. online spending on Cyber Monday 2025, a 7.1% increase from the prior year. NRF separately estimated 75.9 million online shoppers that day, up from 64.4 million in 2024. The figures measure different things: Adobe’s is spending, while NRF’s is a survey-based estimate of shoppers, not a count of transactions.
#1 Best Overall
NRF estimated that 202.9 million consumers shopped during the five-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend through Cyber Monday in 2025. It described Cyber Monday as the second-most-popular online-shopping day of that period. Adobe called it the holiday season’s largest online-spending day, while reporting that Black Friday’s spending growth rate was faster in 2025. Together, these findings suggest an event that remains enormous even as activity and promotions extend across the week.
Are Cyber Monday deals worth it?
They can be, but an advertised discount is only a starting point. Adobe’s 2025 event recap reported peak discounts against listed prices of up to 31% for electronics, 28% for toys, 25% for apparel, 23% for computers, 22% for TVs, 19% for furniture, 19% for appliances, and 17% for sporting goods. These are category peaks—not guarantees for every item, proof of a product’s lowest historical price, or evidence that a specific listing is the best available offer.

Judge a deal by the exact product and what you will pay to receive it. A percentage-off claim can obscure a higher starting price, shipping charges, a required bundle, or return costs. A smaller discount from a reputable seller may be more valuable than a larger one with poor terms or uncertain delivery.
How to tell whether an offer is a good deal
- Match the exact item. Write down the manufacturer, model number, size, capacity, or other specifications that matter. Compare offers for the same model or genuinely equivalent configuration, not products that merely look alike.
- Compare the checkout total. Include shipping, handling, delivery, taxes, fees, and the cost of any required bundle. The advertised price is not the full price if those charges change what you pay.
- Read the conditions. Check the full product description and sale terms. Look for the return window, who pays return postage, any restocking fee, delivery timing, and whether the seller offers a price adjustment.
- Use comparison tools thoughtfully. Price-alert and comparison-shopping sites can help track an item, but the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) advises considering who operates or funds a site and whether payments may influence its listings or rankings.
- Assess the seller, not just the offer. For an unfamiliar seller, search the seller’s name and website address with terms such as “review,” “complaint,” or “scam.” Treat implausibly low prices and social ads that imitate established retailers with caution.
The FTC’s guides to getting the best deal when shopping online and shopping online safely provide further steps for comparing offers and checking sellers.

How to reduce the risks of online shopping
A deal is not a bargain if the goods never arrive, are counterfeit, or cannot be returned on workable terms. The FTC warns that social-media ads can impersonate established sellers and promote unusually low prices for counterfeit products or goods that never arrive. Check that the seller and web address are genuine before paying.
- Read the seller’s refund and return terms, including return postage and restocking fees.
- Save the product description, sale conditions, receipt, and order confirmation.
- Pay by credit card when possible; it can offer a way to dispute a charge if a purchase goes wrong.
- Do not pay an unfamiliar seller with gift cards, wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or a payment app at the seller’s insistence. These methods can be difficult to recover once sent.

Should you use buy now, pay later?
Adobe reported more than $1 billion in Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) spending on Cyber Monday 2025. That figure describes market activity; it is not a recommendation to finance a purchase. Installment plans differ by provider, so check the specific plan’s fees, payment schedule, return and dispute process, and what happens if a payment is late or missed.
The FTC notes that some plans may charge late, transaction, or change fees, and that some providers may report payment history to credit bureaus. Missed payments can affect credit. Before choosing installments, compare the total cost with paying upfront and make sure the due dates fit your budget.

What the 2025 figures can—and cannot—tell you
The available figures establish that Cyber Monday attracts substantial spending and participation, and that Adobe observed deep category-level discounts against listed prices. They do not show that every advertised deal is worthwhile, establish the historical price of a particular item, or predict the size of future savings. As of October 8, 2026, 2026 Cyber Monday results and current offers are not available in the cited data.
