The final nomination date was extended to 30 June 2025. The awards recognised cybersecurity leaders working in Australian organisations, with judging focused on business value and leadership. Nominations were free, and people could nominate themselves or someone else.
What was extended—and when did nominations close?
The nomination deadline for the 2025 CSO30 Australia Awards was extended to 30 June 2025, according to CSO’s nomination announcement. That announcement does not identify the original deadline or say how long the extension was. It also gives no cutoff time or timezone, so a more precise closing time cannot be established.
The CSO30 Australia Awards are part of Foundry’s broader awards program and recognise cybersecurity leaders and the initiatives they lead. The 2025 program was held alongside the CIO50 Awards.

Who could be nominated?
The published eligibility description covered cybersecurity leaders responsible for defining and executing security strategy within an Australian organisation. It did not limit eligibility to people with the formal title “CISO,” nor did it specify restrictions by sector, organisation size, citizenship or job title.
Self-nominations and nominations submitted by another person were accepted, and there was no submission fee. The announcement does not resolve whether external consultants or vendor-employed security leaders were eligible, or whether a nominee had to remain employed by the organisation where the work took place. Those cases would have required clarification from the organisers.
What did judges assess?
The published assessment had two pillars: business value and leadership. The CSO editorial board developed a standardised scoring framework; submissions were reviewed confidentially by experienced judges and industry experts.

Business value
Nominees were asked to explain how security initiatives created measurable value, improved risk and threat management, and strengthened organisational security or operations. The announcement also asked what made the innovation distinctive.

The leadership response was intended to show the nominee’s influence within the organisation, collaboration with business leaders, contributions to the cybersecurity community and work fostering a strong internal security culture.
What did the nomination require?
The form called for a response of up to 800 words under each pillar: 800 words for business value and 800 for leadership, or a maximum of 1,600 words combined. Applicants could complete the form online or download it and submit it by email. The published addresses for that closed cycle were [email protected] and [email protected].

CSO said submission content would be kept confidential and not published. Confidentiality is not the same as anonymity, and it does not necessarily permit disclosure of sensitive company information. A nomination could make its case with approved, non-sensitive evidence—for example, a defined time period, the nominee’s specific role, and measurable outcomes—rather than relying on unrestricted operational details.
A practical way to frame the two responses
The published criteria suggest a useful structure, rather than an additional official scoring rubric:

- Identify the security problem or business risk and when it existed.
- Describe the initiative and distinguish the nominee’s contribution from the team’s work.
- Show the outcome with evidence, such as reduced risk, stronger resilience, less disruption or improved operations.
- Explain how the nominee gained support across business and technical teams.
- Describe any lasting improvement to security culture or organisational capability.
This approach keeps the business result and the nominee’s leadership visible instead of presenting a list of tools or responsibilities without context.

What was the Next CISO Award?
The 2025 program also included a Next CISO Award for an emerging cybersecurity professional showing promise and impact. The nomination announcement did not state a separate age limit, career-stage threshold or word limit for this category.
When and where was the event scheduled?
The nomination announcement listed Sydney and 23 September 2025 for the event, which was to be held alongside the CIO50 Awards. That was the announced schedule; the later results coverage confirms the gala took place in Sydney but does not independently repeat the exact date.
Who received the 2025 awards?
In a later CSO results report, Shaun Martin of Aware Super received the Business Value award, Manasseh Paradesi, formerly of Tyro Payments, received the Leadership award, and Duné Sookloll of Horizon Power won the Next CISO Award. Keyur Lavingia and Joss Howard were highly commended in their respective categories. Thirty Australian cybersecurity leaders were named CSO30 honourees.
