If you are revisiting the 2025 crypto watchlist, the useful question is what each project actually reported or planned—not which token can be declared the “top” pick. The available project updates point to different things to monitor: protocol changes at Avalanche, Polygon’s distinction between a live milestone and a much larger roadmap goal, Cosmos Stack priorities, and a later BlockDAG mainnet milestone. They do not support ranking these assets or calling any one a buy.
How to read this 2025 watchlist now
2025 is over. This is a retrospective on developments reported during that year, with a later BlockDAG update noted separately. The evidence summarized here is chiefly from the projects themselves, so reported performance and milestones should be treated as project claims, not independent verification. A development worth watching is not, by itself, evidence that a token is a good investment.
| Project | What was worth watching | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| BlockDAG | Network design and subsequent mainnet status | Project developer materials describe its design; the reported mainnet activation occurred after 2025. |
| Avalanche | C-Chain gas and fee changes | A dated protocol update from Avalanche’s developer blog. |
| Polygon | Scaling plans versus reported live throughput and payment activity | Milestones and figures reported by Polygon, not independently audited in the cited material. |
| Chainlink | Potential developments announced at SmartCon | A Chainlink-hosted keynote was surfaced, but the available excerpt does not establish a specific comparable development. |
| Cosmos | Cosmos Stack engineering priorities | A Cosmos Labs roadmap update; it was not a complete Cosmos Hub roadmap. |
What to watch for each project
BlockDAG: distinguish the 2025 thesis from later delivery
BlockDAG’s developer hub describes a Layer 1 that combines a directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure with proof of work. That is the project’s description of its design, not independent confirmation of network performance or decentralization.
The same project hub reports that mainnet block production activated on February 10, 2026, and that native BDAG issuance and vesting contracts were deployed on February 11, 2026. Those are post-2025 project-reported milestones; they should not be presented as achievements during the 2025 watch period. The project’s developer documentation identifies chain ID 1404 and BDAG as the network currency, but those identifiers do not establish adoption, security, or investment value.

Avalanche: a concrete protocol change, not a token-performance signal
Avalanche’s developer blog dates the Octane update to March 11, 2025. It says the update activated ACP-176, which changes C-Chain gas targets through dynamic adjustment and alters fee mechanisms. This gives developers and users a specific protocol change to assess: how the revised gas and fee behavior works in practice.
The update does not establish how AVAX performed as an investment or whether the change increased adoption. Those are separate questions requiring comparable market and network evidence.

Polygon: separate the delivered report from the long-term target
In a June 12, 2025 post, Polygon described 100,000 transactions per second (TPS) as a long-term Gigagas goal. That was a roadmap aspiration, not a result achieved in that post. Polygon’s July 1, 2025 post said the Bhilai hardfork was live and reported throughput above 1,000 TPS. The two figures refer to different things: a future target and a project-reported post-upgrade milestone.
Polygon’s December 31, 2025 year-in-review said Stripe processed more than $75 million in payments on Polygon during 2025. That is a usage figure reported by Polygon, not an independently audited measure in the cited material. Together, these reports offer milestones to track, but do not by themselves establish sustained throughput, broader adoption, or the investment case for a Polygon-related token.

Chainlink: the available 2025 evidence is too thin for a specific callout
The material available for this retrospective surfaced Sergey Nazarov’s SmartCon 2025 keynote on a Chainlink-hosted PDF, but the excerpt did not provide enough detail to substantiate a particular 2025 product development, adoption statistic, or quotation. A keynote title alone is not a basis for inferring what changed. Chainlink therefore cannot be compared fairly with the dated protocol and roadmap items above on this evidence.
Cosmos: a Stack roadmap, not a complete Hub plan
In January 2025, Cosmos Labs said its short-term Stack plans had changed after feedback. Its priorities included simplifying the IBC upgrade path, improving CometBFT latency and reliability under load, and strengthening CosmWasm security, including through an audit.

Cosmos Labs also said a separate Cosmos Hub roadmap would be published. The Stack update should therefore be read as an engineering-priority note, not as a complete roadmap for the Hub or a promise that the work was completed.

These updates are useful for forming questions, not for settling an investment decision. They cover different kinds of evidence: a protocol change, roadmap priorities, project-reported throughput and payment activity, and a later network milestone. Those signals are not interchangeable, and the sources are mostly project-controlled.

That information is not established by the updates summarized here. Before drawing a conclusion about any asset, check the underlying project announcement and seek independent evidence for the claims most relevant to your decision.
