Crypto Gainers Under $5 in 2025: What the Data Can—and Can’t—Show

CoinGecko reported major 2025 gains for MYX Finance and Zcash, but the cited figures do not verify six assets were under $5 at matching historical dates. Here’s what a reliable comparison requires.

The available 2025 data does not verify a reliable list of six crypto gainers that were also under $5 at the same historical date. CoinGecko reported large year-to-date gains for MYX Finance and Zcash in a study measured through December 18, 2025, but the figures provided do not establish that either met the under-$5 price filter at a matching endpoint. A past gainer is not a forecast of future returns, and a low token price alone does not show that an asset is cheap.

Why a verified six-coin list is not available

To answer “top crypto gainers under $5” rigorously, each candidate needs to meet both conditions on consistent data: it must have gained over a defined period in 2025, and its price must have been below $5 at a specified date. The result also depends on which assets are eligible. A ranking limited to the largest cryptocurrencies can differ from one covering every tracked token.

CoinGecko’s 2025 gainer study examined the 300 largest assets as of December 18, 2025, comparing their year-to-date performance with January 1, 2025, or the earliest available date. The reported rankings establish gains for assets in that study’s universe, but the available figures do not provide a matching historical price check that verifies six gainers were under $5. Naming six would therefore imply a level of verification the data does not support.

What the reported 2025 figures do show

Asset or measure Reported result What the figure establishes
MYX Finance (MYX) +3,358.15% year to date through December 18, 2025, in CoinGecko’s study of the 300 largest assets A reported historical gain in that study’s universe; the figure does not establish that MYX was under $5 at the required matching date or indicate future performance.
Zcash (ZEC) +573.72% year to date through December 18, 2025, in the same CoinGecko study A reported result for that study’s window, not a verified under-$5 qualification.
Zcash (ZEC), separate report +812.5%, from $56.10 on January 1, 2025, to $511.92 on December 31, 2025, in CoinGecko’s later volatility analysis A distinct full-year calculation with different stated endpoints. It should not be combined with or substituted for the December 18 study’s figure without reconciling the data window and methodology.

CoinGecko also reported average daily crypto trading volume of $161.8 billion in 2025 and 48.9% annual growth in stablecoin market capitalization, reaching $311.0 billion. These are market-wide figures, not evidence that a particular token is valuable, liquid enough for a given investor, or likely to rise.

Why “under $5” does not mean undervalued

A token’s unit price is only the price of one unit. It does not tell you how many units exist, what the whole network is worth, how much supply may enter circulation, or whether buyers can trade the token without significant price impact. Two assets with very different token prices can have similar market capitalizations, and a token priced below $5 can still be expensive relative to its circulating supply or adoption.

Nor does a large past percentage gain establish “significant returns” ahead. Historical performance describes a prior period; it does not predict the next one. A sharp rally can also make an asset more volatile or leave a buyer exposed to a reversal.

How to verify a 2025 under-$5 gainer list

Before relying on a ranking, make sure its return and price tests use a consistent universe, period, and data source. A sound comparison should state:

  • Eligible assets: Define the universe, such as the largest assets by market capitalization, and say how assets with incomplete price histories are handled.
  • Return window: Give the start and end dates and clarify whether the return is calendar-year performance or year to date through a particular day.
  • Price test: Check the USD price on the same stated endpoint used for the ranking. “Under $5” is a dated condition, not a permanent description of a token.
  • Comparable pricing: Use one consistent source and account for redenominations or other changes that could make historical unit prices misleading.
  • Investment context: Compare market capitalization, trading liquidity, circulating and total supply, scheduled unlocks or dilution, and evidence of project use. A price-only leaderboard cannot answer those questions.

Why live gainer pages cannot answer a 2025 question

CoinGecko’s current gainers page offers rolling periods, including 24 hours and one year. CoinMarketCap’s gainers page describes a 24-hour ranking for assets meeting a volume threshold. Those rankings change with the market and do not establish calendar-year 2025 returns. A page that labels an asset a “top gainer” today is not a substitute for a dated historical comparison.
