Crypto Card Payments Hit a Reported $12.5 Billion Record in 2026

Crypto-card payments reportedly reached a record $12.5 billion in 2026, according to Paymentscan data cited by Bitcoin Magazine. The figure is an attributed industry estimate—not Jupiter Spend’s volume—and the coverage does not disclose its measurement window, issuer coverage, or calculation method. Separate reporting puts stablecoin card spending at $1.03 billion in July 2026, a different measure that should not be added to or treated as a breakdown of the $12.5 billion estimate.

What the $12.5 billion figure measures—and what it does not

Bitcoin Magazine reported the $12.5 billion record based on Paymentscan data first shared by The Kobeissi Letter. The same report says the figure was up 140% year to date and 247% compared with October 2025. Those growth rates belong to the reported estimate; the article does not provide enough methodological detail to independently assess how the totals were assembled.

In particular, the coverage does not state the precise measurement window, which issuers or cards are included, or how Paymentscan calculates payment volume. It also does not establish what share of the $12.5 billion was funded by stablecoins. The number is therefore best understood as an attributed industry estimate, not an audited total or a direct measure of stablecoin adoption.

Bitcoin Magazine’s report quotes The Kobeissi Letter’s characterization: “Crypto cards are the next phase of crypto adoption.” The Letter points to increased stablecoin use as a payment rail and demand for cheaper, faster cross-border transactions as explanations for the increase. That is the Letter’s interpretation, not independently established proof of what caused the rise.

Why another report gives a much smaller number

Crypto Briefing reported that stablecoin card spending reached $1.03 billion across more than 10 million transactions in July 2026—the first month its reported measure exceeded $1 billion. This is a separate stablecoin-specific monthly figure. Its narrower scope and stated month differ from the $12.5 billion industry estimate, so the two figures are not directly comparable and should not be conflated.

The same report says Jupiter’s card settlement volume was $7.6 million in September 2026, 8% higher than the previous month. That is one provider’s figure, not a component that can be assumed to account for or reconcile the broader estimate. The coverage does not give a common methodology for comparing the provider figure with either industry-wide number.

What might be driving crypto-card use

A crypto-linked card can make a digital asset usable at merchants that accept ordinary card payments, without requiring the merchant to accept crypto directly. Stablecoins may be especially relevant because their value is designed to track a currency such as the U.S. dollar; using one as a funding source can be more practical for spending than using a volatile asset. The reports cited here, however, do not quantify how much of the record came from stablecoin-funded purchases.

The Kobeissi Letter’s suggested drivers—stablecoins acting as a payment rail and demand for faster, cheaper cross-border transactions—are plausible explanations offered in the coverage, not demonstrated causal findings. The reported volume alone does not show whether cardholders are making routine purchases, moving funds between services, or spending primarily in particular countries or merchant categories.

Jupiter Spend is one example, not the industry total

Crypto Briefing describes Jupiter Spend as a card funded with USDC or USDT through the Jupiter app on Solana, with funds converted to a U.S.-dollar balance for purchases. It reports fee-free Solana deposits, foreign-exchange fees of 1% or 1.8% depending on issuer, and QR Pay in select Asia-Pacific markets. These are time-sensitive product details reported by the outlet; check Jupiter’s current terms, issuer information, and regional availability before relying on them.

The reported $7.6 million September settlement volume is Jupiter’s provider-level figure. It is much narrower than the $12.5 billion headline estimate, which Bitcoin Magazine attributes to Paymentscan as an industry-wide total. The headline should not be described as Jupiter Spend’s volume.

How to compare crypto-card offers as a consumer

Market-wide payment volume does not tell you whether a particular card is suitable or available where you live. Compare the product’s mechanics and current terms rather than relying on a headline growth figure.

  • Product type: Determine whether it is a debit or spending card, a credit card, or a card linked to borrowing against crypto. These structures create different obligations and risks.
  • Funding asset and conversion: Check which assets are accepted, when conversion to fiat occurs, and what exchange rate or spread applies.
  • Fees and interest: Review card, transaction, foreign-exchange, withdrawal, and network fees. For credit or collateral-backed products, examine APR, repayment terms, and the consequences of falling collateral value.
  • Eligibility and geography: Confirm supported countries, residency requirements, issuer, and local restrictions. Availability and terms can vary by region.
  • Rewards and conditions: Check the reward asset, qualifying purchases, caps, expiration rules, and any conditions for earning or redeeming rewards.

Crypto Briefing also names the Fold Bitcoin Credit Card and Aven Bitcoin Visa Card, but the cited coverage does not establish current eligibility, fees, rewards, or terms for either. Compare their present provider disclosures directly rather than assuming that different products—or even differently named crypto cards—work alike. [Crypto Briefing’s coverage; Bifu’s report]
