Yes. CrowdStrike announced on February 8, 2023 that Michael Sentonas would move from chief technology officer to president. The board made the appointment effective March 1, 2023. Sentonas took responsibility for product and engineering as well as sales, marketing, threat intelligence, corporate development, strategy and the CTO organization, while George Kurtz remained chief executive officer. CrowdStrike’s executive page reviewed on August 18, 2026, still lists Sentonas as president.
CrowdStrike’s announcement and the company’s SEC filing show why the dates and reporting lines matter: this was a broadening of operational authority, not a CEO succession announcement.
What CrowdStrike announced
The February 8 announcement described Sentonas as the executive who would align CrowdStrike’s technology and commercial organizations as the company expanded its Falcon platform. The responsibilities covered:
- Product and engineering
- Sales and go-to-market execution
- Marketing
- Threat intelligence
- Corporate development and corporate strategy
- The chief technology officer organization
The announcement placed the chief sales officer, chief marketing officer, chief product and engineering officer, and senior vice president of Intelligence within the scope of Sentonas’s leadership. In a later company biography, CrowdStrike also lists privacy and policy among his areas.

Announcement date versus effective date
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 8, 2023 | CrowdStrike publicly announced Sentonas’s promotion from CTO to president. |
| March 1, 2023 | The board appointed him president under the amended bylaws, effective immediately. |
CrowdStrike’s later biography describes him as president since March 2023. Treating February 8 as the legal start date would collapse a public announcement and the board’s formal appointment into one event.
What the president role meant
Sentonas’s new job connected the teams building CrowdStrike’s security platform with the teams commercializing it. That is materially broader than a conventional CTO remit: he was responsible for coordinating technology priorities, product delivery, customer-facing execution and the company’s expansion into additional security modules.

What changed for George Kurtz
George Kurtz remained CrowdStrike’s co-founder and CEO. The company said Sentonas’s expanded remit would allow Kurtz to spend more time with customers and partners while Sentonas drove product and go-to-market execution. Sentonas reported to Kurtz; the announcement did not say Kurtz was stepping down or identify Sentonas as an incoming CEO.
Was this a succession announcement?
Not according to the official material reviewed. The promotion increased Sentonas’s authority across major operating functions, but it did not replace the chief executive, create a stated succession plan or establish him as Kurtz’s successor. Calling him an “heir apparent” would go beyond the documented facts.

Those later records confirm continuity in the role, but they do not establish that the 2023 promotion produced particular revenue, customer-growth or product outcomes.

Why the distinction matters to investors and customers
For investors, the change clarifies how CrowdStrike divided leadership responsibility: Kurtz remained the chief executive, while Sentonas became the senior operator connecting platform development with commercialization. For customers, the relevant change was the concentration of product, engineering, intelligence and go-to-market functions under one technically experienced executive.
That structure can be interpreted as an effort to make platform expansion and customer execution more coordinated. It should be treated as organizational analysis, not as a separate claim by the board about future performance.
The Bottom Line
CrowdStrike announced Michael Sentonas’s promotion on February 8, 2023, and made him president effective March 1. He took on a broad product-and-go-to-market mandate while George Kurtz remained CEO. Official CrowdStrike records through August 18, 2026, continue to identify Sentonas as president.
