The “$10 million” description is a rounded dollar rendering of the yen amount, not a conversion calculated at a stated exchange rate.

What was Creema’s marketplace?
Creema described itself as a consumer-to-consumer marketplace connecting creators and buyers of original works. The service began in May 2010. Its 2016 announcement listed categories including fashion, furniture, tableware, art, sweets, and seasonings, showing that it was not limited to one kind of craft.
At the time of the financing, Creema reported more than 60,000 sellers and more than 2.4 million listed original works. It forecast ¥10 billion in gross merchandise volume (GMV) for 2016. These are company-reported figures and a forecast from that period, not current metrics or confirmed actual results in the cited source. The same release attributed an ¥824.6 billion estimate for the related handmade market to the Japan Hobby Association’s Hobby White Paper 2013; it did not explain the estimate’s boundaries or methodology, so that figure should not be read as Creema’s own addressable-market calculation.

What later figures show—and what they do not
Creema’s investor presentation dated July 13, 2021 reported 210,000 registered creators, 11 million registered works, 11 million app downloads, and annual GMV of ¥15.4 billion. It described the marketplace as operating in Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, alongside creator services, events, and stores. These are 2021 historical figures, not a snapshot of Creema’s scale in 2026.
Creema’s services page lists a broader range of offerings, including its handmade marketplace, online-shop service, crowdfunding, gift catalog, events, and an alliance program. The page does not establish that the alliance program is an affiliate program or specify affiliate terms.

Why the lead investor backed Creema
Globis Capital Partners COO and Partner Yutaka Konno said in Creema’s announcement, in a close translation from Japanese, that the platform was needed by people who make things with conviction and people seeking something of their own. Creema also stated its mission as establishing “a fair new economic sphere where truly good things do not get buried,” translated from the Japanese wording in the company release.
