Craig Dawson reportedly turned down a Birmingham City offer worth £1 million a year in September 2025, according to journalist Alan Nixon. The figure and rejection were reported by two outlets, but neither account is a club statement or a verified contract document. The reports do not establish Dawson’s club or playing status as of 7 October 2026.
Who reportedly rejected Birmingham City’s offer?
The player was Craig Dawson, a defender described as 35 and a free agent in the September 2025 coverage. Football League World reported on 14 September that Dawson rejected Birmingham City’s offer, attributing the claim to journalist Alan Nixon. Molineux News published a similar account that day, updated on 16 September, and also attributed it to Nixon.
The two stories are published accounts of the same underlying report, not independent primary confirmation. Neither supplies a Birmingham City statement, contract document or direct interview with Dawson. Football League World’s report and Molineux News’s report therefore support describing the deal as reported, not confirmed.
What was the reported value of the deal?
Nixon’s account, as relayed by Football League World and Molineux News, put the offer at £1 million per year. That is a reported offer figure, not a verified salary or confirmed contract term. The coverage does not specify whether the amount was gross or net, how long the proposed contract would have run, or what other terms it included.

Why did Dawson reportedly turn it down?
Football League World relayed Nixon’s account that Dawson had offers from Blackburn and Wrexham, among other clubs, and wanted his next—and potentially final—move to meet all the right conditions. That is Nixon’s reported explanation, not a statement directly from Dawson. The reports provide no comparable financial terms for the other clubs, so they do not show that any alternative offer was more valuable or otherwise better.

The reports appeared on 14 September 2025, during Birmingham City’s 2025/26 squad-building period. Molineux News also said Dawson’s Wolves contract had ended. This explains the context of the original coverage, but the September 2025 stories do not establish what happened afterward or Dawson’s status on 7 October 2026. No later outcome should be inferred from them.
