In 2019, Xbox said Mixer Partners could receive $3 for each qualifying Game Pass enrollment or upgrade attributed to their creator code. Microsoft announced Mixer’s closure in 2020.
How the Mixer Partner payment worked
In an August 27, 2019 announcement, Xbox described a program that paid Mixer Partners $3 for each qualifying member who credited the partner with a code. The payment was a program term, not a general commission rate for Game Pass referrals. Xbox Wire’s announcement set out the eligible actions and code process.
Which memberships qualified
- A new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Console, or PC membership.
- An existing Xbox Game Pass Console or PC member upgrading to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
- An Xbox Live Gold member upgrading to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
How viewers credited a creator
The member had 30 days from the start of the membership to enter the Mixer Partner’s code. Xbox said the code could be entered in the Xbox (beta) app on PC or the Xbox Game Pass app for iOS or Android. In the account menu, the relevant control was labeled “Support a creator.”
Why this is not an active Mixer earning opportunity
On June 22, 2020, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer announced that Microsoft would close Mixer operations and help its community transition to Facebook Gaming. Microsoft said Mixer sites and apps would begin redirecting users to Facebook Gaming on July 22, 2020. The announcement makes clear why the Mixer-specific creator-code program should be treated as historical, not as a current way to earn referral payments. Microsoft’s closure announcement describes the transition.

What this means for creators and viewers
The offer was a defined referral program: a qualifying enrollment or upgrade, a creator code entered within the stated window, and a $3 payment to the Mixer Partner. It was not a standing promise that every Game Pass signup generated a creator payment, and the 2019 announcement does not establish a current equivalent on another platform.
Xbox’s 2019 post also mentioned an introductory Game Pass price for its then-current promotion. That offer was time-limited and is not a current subscription price.
