Who owns the Seahawks now?
The Khosla family became the Seahawks’ controlling owner when the sale closed on September 3, 2026, the team announced. Neeru Khosla was identified as controlling owner, Vinod Khosla as chair, and Neal Khosla as vice chair. NFL owners approved the transaction on August 26, according to the team’s closing announcement.
The agreement was announced July 11, 2026, following the estate’s formal sale process. The estate said that process was consistent with Paul Allen’s directive to sell his sports holdings eventually and direct the proceeds to philanthropy. Could Jeff Bezos buy the Seahawks?
The completed sale makes Bezos a hypothetical future buyer, not the incoming owner. The reviewed announcements do not establish whether he submitted a bid or participated in an ownership group, and they provide no evidence of a later resale or a specific stake for him. So it would be inaccurate to say definitively that he did or did not bid; what is established is that the Khosla family’s purchase closed.

There is also no published probability in the cited material for Bezos buying the team, and no measured change in such odds attributable to the Wilson trade. Treating the headline’s “increases the odds” claim as fact would go beyond the available evidence.
What happened in the Russell Wilson trade?
On March 16, 2022, Seattle announced it traded quarterback Russell Wilson and a fourth-round pick to Denver. In return, the Seahawks received five draft picks and three players: Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, and Drew Lock. The team’s transaction announcement documents the terms.

That announcement concerns the football roster. It does not mention Bezos, the later sale process, or who might own the team. The trade’s terms therefore cannot establish a connection to the 2026 ownership decision, much less show that the transaction changed Bezos’s chances.
Why did Seattle trade Russell Wilson?
The official transaction announcement establishes what Seattle sent and received, but it does not provide evidence that the trade was designed to influence ownership or a future sale. The available sale announcements likewise do not link the deal to Wilson’s departure. Without a documented connection, the trade should be understood as a roster move, not as a signal about the eventual buyer.

What is known about the sale price?
The Associated Press reported the agreement price as $9.612 billion, attributing the figure to a person familiar with the deal. That was AP’s reported figure; the Seahawks’ September closing announcement did not disclose the terms. The team’s closing notice and AP’s sale report should not be conflated: one confirms the closing and ownership, while the other reports the price.

In an October 1, 2026, Axios interview, Vinod Khosla said he had not been looking to buy an NFL team and that a friend encouraged him to consider the Seahawks. Asked if he had been looking to buy a team, Khosla answered: “No. This was the first one. And it wasn’t really planned.” The Axios interview gives his account of how his interest began; it does not establish anything about whether Bezos bid.
