The Costco egg recall was a specific 2024 recall, not a current recall of Kirkland eggs generally. Handsome Brook Farms announced it on November 27, 2024, for 10,800 retail units of Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-count eggs. A carton is covered only if it matches all three identifiers: UPC 9661910680, Julian code 327, and use-by date January 5, 2025. The original notice said to stop consuming a matching carton and return it to Costco for a full refund or dispose of it. Its use-by date has passed, so this is not current stock; the notice does not establish Costco’s current refund policy.
Which Costco eggs were recalled?
The recalled product was Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-count eggs supplied by Handsome Brook Farms. The company announced the recall on November 27, 2024, and the FDA-distributed notice reported that 10,800 retail units were involved. Distribution began November 22, 2024, to 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The notice did not identify affected stores individually.
The FDA notice said no illness complaints had been reported at the time of the announcement and that no other products were affected. That was a statement about the information available on November 27, 2024, not a guarantee about later reports.
How to check whether a carton matches the recall
Read the label and the printing on the side of the plastic carton. The FDA-distributed announcement specifies that the recall applies only to cartons with Julian code 327 and a use-by date of January 5, 2025.

| Identifier | Recalled carton | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised, 24-count eggs | Carton label |
| UPC | 9661910680 | Product packaging |
| Julian code | 327 | Side of the plastic carton |
| Use-by date | January 5, 2025 | Side of the plastic carton |
Use the identifiers together: a matching product name alone is not enough. If one or more of the listed codes or the date does not match, the carton is not identified as part of this specific recall by the FDA notice. Other egg recalls have involved different producers and codes.
What to do with a matching carton
- Do not eat the eggs. The original recall instructions were to stop consuming cartons that match the identifiers.
- Follow the original disposition instruction. The notice said consumers could return the carton to a local Costco for a full refund or dispose of it. This is the instruction published with the 2024 recall; it does not confirm what Costco will offer now.
- Clean anything the eggs may have touched. Wash hands, utensils, and food-contact surfaces with hot, soapy water before and after handling raw eggs or foods containing raw eggs. FDA guidance also recommends cleaning and sanitizing surfaces or containers that may have contacted recalled eggs to reduce cross-contamination.
Salmonella symptoms and when to seek care
Salmonella illness usually begins 12 to 72 hours after exposure. Common symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps; nausea and vomiting can also occur, and diarrhea may be bloody. Illness usually lasts four to seven days. People with symptoms should contact a health-care provider.

The Costco notice concerned Handsome Brook Farms eggs distributed in 2024. Separate FDA investigations involved an August Egg Company outbreak in 2025 and a Midwest Poultry Services outbreak in 2026. Their products, distribution, and case counts do not belong to the Costco recall. The FDA’s 2026 update said that separate investigation was complete and its recalled eggs should no longer be for sale.
