Which Costco smoked salmon was recalled?
The affected product was Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon in a twin 12-ounce package, made by Acme Smoked Fish Corporation. Acme’s recall announcement, published by the FDA on October 26, 2024, covered 111 cases of the product. The notice identified distribution to the Southeast Costco Distribution Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, and Costco warehouse stores in Florida from October 9 through October 13, 2024. Why was the recall upgraded to Class I?
Acme said laboratory testing confirmed Listeria monocytogenes on October 21, 2024, and announced a voluntary recall on October 25. The FDA published the announcement the following day. The FDA defines Class I as “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.” FDA Enforcement Report Information and Definitions The classification describes the agency’s assessment of the hazard; it does not mean every person who ate the product will become ill.
The FDA says classification generally follows after the recalling firm provides information needed for the agency’s risk assessment. It also cautions that a classification does not expand or change the company’s voluntary public warning. FDA classification guidance
What is known about illnesses?
In its October 25, 2024 announcement, Acme said no illnesses had been reported at that time. That is a time-bounded statement, not a current illness count. The cited notices do not establish a subsequent count of illnesses associated with this specific recall.
Do not confuse it with Costco’s egg recall
This smoked salmon recall is separate from a December 2024 Kirkland Signature egg recall that also received a Class I designation. The salmon notice concerns the specific smoked salmon lot and identifiers listed above; the two recalls involve different products and events.

What a Class I label does—and does not—tell consumers
The FDA’s recall listings include company announcements, and the agency notes that posting such notices is a public service rather than an endorsement of a product or company.
