In the United States, Costco allows returns within 90 days of receiving merchandise in several specifically named electronics categories, including TVs, computers, cameras, and tablets. The policy does not define “electronics” as one blanket category, and cellular-phone returns can depend on the carrier service contract. You can return a warehouse purchase at any Costco warehouse; online orders can be returned at a warehouse or through Costco.com.
Which electronics have a 90-day return window?
Costco’s U.S. policy gives members 90 days from the date they receive the merchandise to return the listed categories. That trigger is receipt of the item, not necessarily the order or purchase date. The current policy was published October 2, 2025; check Costco’s page for any later changes or applicable limitations.
The categories named by Costco Customer Service are:
- Televisions and projectors
- Computers and touchscreen tablets
- Smart wearable devices
- Cameras, aerial cameras (drones), and camcorders
- MP3 players
- Cellular phones
- Specified major appliances, including refrigerators above 10 cubic feet, freezers, ranges, cooktops, over-the-range and under-counter microwaves, range hoods, dishwashers, water heaters, washers, and dryers
See Costco’s return policy for the exact category wording. If your product is not named, do not assume the 90-day exception applies simply because it is commonly described as electronics; check with Costco about that item.

How to return a Costco electronics purchase
- For a warehouse purchase: Take the item to the returns counter at any Costco warehouse. Costco’s guidance says a receipt or original product packaging can help, but may not be necessary to process the return. Bring them if available. See Costco’s warehouse-return instructions.
- For an online order: Return it at a Costco warehouse or initiate the return through Costco.com. Costco’s published return policy describes these options.
- For a cellular phone: Check the carrier service contract as well as Costco’s policy. Costco says phone-return details vary by carrier contract.
Costco notes that limitations apply and directs members to the membership counter or Costco.com for details. If you are unsure how the 90-day period applies to your order, contact Costco with the receipt or order information before the window expires.
Major-appliance returns and warranty coverage are different
Costco’s separate major-appliance page confirms a 90-day return window from receipt for the appliances it lists: refrigerators larger than 10 cubic feet, water heaters, washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, ranges, cooktops, and over-the-range microwaves. The general return policy also names under-counter microwaves and range hoods. For appliance-specific questions, consult Costco’s major-appliance return policy.

The same appliance page says Costco extends the manufacturer’s warranty on eligible appliances to two years and provides free warranty assistance. That coverage is separate from the 90-day return period: it is warranty support, not an extension of the time to return the appliance. Costco says the second-year coverage mirrors the manufacturer’s warranty and that it may choose repair, replacement, or a refund up to the purchase price to fulfill its obligation. The applicable manufacturer coverage determines the specifics.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What if you need technical help rather than a return?
Costco says technical and warranty representatives can assist with technical support and warranty information for many electronics. Its warehouse-return guidance describes free technical support for TVs, computers, cameras, printers, and more across their lifetime. This support is distinct from the 90-day return window; it does not extend the period for returning an item.
