Corteva Agriscience appointed Dr. Claudia Coplein as its first Chief Health Officer in May 2024, creating a new role focused on health, nutrition and safe food production. In a February 2025 interview, Coplein described a remit spanning the company’s products and workforce as well as farmers and the wider agricultural community. The sources establish the appointment and its stated purpose, but do not document measured health outcomes or confirm who currently holds the position.
Who Corteva appointed and when

Successful Farming reported the appointment in a February 3, 2025 interview with Coplein. Before joining Corteva, she served as chief medical officer for Tyson Foods. The interview also describes her as board-certified in occupational medicine, a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, a physician executive and a former U.S. Air Force flight surgeon. Why Corteva created the role
Coplein said Corteva saw an opportunity to contribute to conversations at the intersection of agriculture, food and health. She described the job as applying health expertise while the company advances agricultural science and considers the safety of its people and products.

She characterized the Chief Health Officer as a strategic partner working across research and development, commercial operations, food systems, sustainability, and environmental health and safety. That description states the role’s intended scope; it is not evidence that a particular health outcome has been achieved.

Coplein said the role could help bring relevant health information to farms. Topics she identified included application safety, mental health, nutrition, and safety during planting and harvest. She also described spending time in fields listening to farmers and said Corteva could share information through programs, partnerships and publications.
Those are stated aims and potential ways to serve farmers and their families. The interview does not report measured results from such programs or establish that they have improved farmer health or safety.
