Granite reported greater revenue in the latest aligned quarter, but its $7.4 billion committed and awarded projects (CAP) and Construction Partners’ $3.36 billion contract backlog use different definitions. Neither pipeline figure is a guarantee of revenue. For a project owner, the better comparison is local capacity and relevant experience; for an investor, it is financial performance, cash flow, debt, acquisition effects and risk—not company size alone.
How the two contractors differ
Construction Partners: roadway-focused, with local Sunbelt operations
Construction Partners describes itself as a vertically integrated civil infrastructure company centered on roadway construction and maintenance in local Sunbelt markets. Its work includes public roads, highways, bridges and airports, as well as large-site work and hot-mix asphalt (HMA) paving for commercial and residential developers and local businesses. It produces HMA, aggregates and liquid asphalt cement for its own jobs and for third-party customers. Its reported backlog excludes those external materials sales, so backlog does not represent all of its commercial activity. ()
The company’s reported growth also reflects acquisitions. In October 2025, it acquired Houston-area asphalt manufacturing and construction assets, adding eight HMA plants and related crews and equipment. In July 2026, it acquired Ellsworth Construction, expanding its Oklahoma footprint and data-center construction capabilities. Those additions mean reported expansion includes acquired operations as well as activity in existing markets. (Construction Partners’ 2026 Form 10-Q and Q3 2026 release.)
Granite: broader civil work and materials
Granite reports Construction and Materials segments. Its construction portfolio includes roads and pavement preservation, bridges, rail, airports, marine ports, dams, reservoirs, aqueducts, site development and water-related construction. It also lists tunnel, mining, solar, battery storage and other power-related work. Its Materials segment produces and delivers aggregates, asphalt concrete, liquid asphalt and recycled materials for Granite projects and third-party customers. Granite also reports national specialty businesses in tunnel, rail, federal, industrial and energy work, along with Layne water well and related services. (Granite’s FY2025 Form 10-K.)

For historical scale, Granite reported $4.424 billion in FY2025 revenue: $3.655 billion in Construction and $769.5 million in Materials after intersegment eliminations. Granite’s fiscal year ended December 31, 2025; Construction Partners’ FY2025 ended September 30, 2025. Their annual periods therefore cover different seasons, so aligned quarterly figures are more useful for a current comparison. (Granite’s FY2025 Form 10-K; Construction Partners’ FY2025 Form 10-K.)
What the latest aligned quarter shows
Both companies reported results for the three months ended June 30, 2026, although their fiscal-quarter labels differ. The figures below are company-reported, and adjusted EBITDA is a non-GAAP measure.

| Measure | Construction Partners | Granite Construction |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly revenue | $999.4 million; up 28.2% year over year | $1.456 billion; the earnings release reported 29% headline growth |
| Pipeline measure at June 30 | $3.36 billion contract backlog | $7.4 billion committed and awarded projects (CAP) |
| Adjusted EBITDA context | $163.0 million; 16.3% margin | Adjusted EBITDA of $186 million, up 22% year over year |
| Important qualification | $151.0 million of revenue growth came from acquisitions and $69.1 million from existing markets | GAAP Q2 net loss was driven by a $360 million non-operating loss on convertible-debt transactions |
Sources: Construction Partners’ Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 and Granite’s July 30, 2026 Q2 results release. Acquisitions contributed to reported growth at both companies. Because their non-GAAP definitions and adjustments are company-specific, the adjusted EBITDA figures should not be treated as directly equivalent profitability measures.
Why backlog and CAP are not apples-to-apples
Construction Partners’ contract backlog
At June 30, 2026, Construction Partners reported $3.36 billion in contract backlog: $2.7 billion of uncompleted work on contracts underway or executed, and $0.7 billion of low-bid/no-contract work. Its policy may include executed change orders, certain pending change orders and claims considered probable. Customers can cancel or modify substantially all backlog contracts, and projects may be awarded and completed between reporting dates. (Construction Partners’ Q3 2026 Form 10-Q.)

- Diecast Masters | 1:87 Scale Kenworth T880s SBFS 40in-Sleeper Tandem Tractor with Lowboy Trailer and Cat 320D L Hydraulic Excavator | Model 84420
The company’s FY2025 filing said it expected approximately 78% of its September 30, 2025 backlog to be completed in the following 12 months. That was an estimate based on the earlier backlog date; it is not a stated completion estimate for the June 2026 backlog. (Construction Partners’ FY2025 Form 10-K.)
Granite’s committed and awarded projects
Granite reported $7.4 billion in CAP at June 30, 2026, up $250 million sequentially and $1.4 billion year over year. The company defines CAP as expected future revenue on executed contracts plus other awards, with specific treatment of consolidated and unconsolidated joint ventures and construction-management or progressive-design-build scopes subject to contract execution and probable funding. Granite cautions that backlog may not be realized or produce profits; CAP includes both unearned revenue and other awards. (Q2 2026 release; FY2025 Form 10-K.)

Do not read Granite’s larger CAP total as proof that it has twice the firm work or future revenue. The labels, inclusion rules, award status and funding assumptions differ, and neither measure establishes profitability or certainty.

- ABS material: Mini traffic cones are made of durable ABS plastic with a thickened design for improved stability. Unlike those fragile cone-shaped toys on the market, these small orange cones maintain their shape during stacking, handling, and storage, making them ideal for RC drifting setups, model scenes, tabletop games, and miniature displays
- Training traffic Knowledge: Mini cones can be used to create realistic miniature roads, construction scenes, and creative play setups. These party cones are also great for RC car tracks, crawler courses, construction-themed parties, and classroom craft activities, adding fun details to small-scale projects
- DIY accessories: Tiny traffic cones are perfect DIY accessories for dollhouses, train gardens, dioramas, and miniature scenes. The bright orange-and-white striped design adds realistic details to construction areas, roadwork displays, and model landscapes
- Easy to carry: Mini construction cones feature a compact size of 0.98 x 0.39 x 0.39 inches. The lightweight, stackable design makes them easy to store, carry, and use for party favors, cake decorations, craft projects, and miniature displays
- Widely used: Mini road cones are compatible with toy vehicles such as die-cast cars, small wooden cars, mini construction vehicles, and RC models. They are great additions for construction dioramas, miniature road layouts, parking scenes, and car-themed decorations
- Confirm local fit. Identify the state and metro area, then ask about nearby crews, plants, materials supply and relevant project references. A Sunbelt or national footprint does not by itself prove local capacity or availability.
- Match experience to scope. Road paving and maintenance overlap, while Granite discloses a wider range of specialist civil services. Ask for demonstrated experience with the project’s complexity, delivery model and contract form.
- Check materials integration. Both companies have asphalt and aggregates exposure. For the job at hand, compare plant proximity, supply availability, third-party materials activity and how material costs are handled.
- Establish what the pipeline represents. For a proposed project, verify whether work is executed, low-bid/no-contract or another award; confirm funding assumptions, timing, cancellation rights and change orders. Do not rank contractors by raw backlog or CAP without reconciling definitions.
- Review job-level qualifications and terms. Verify local licensing, references, safety record, crew availability, bid documents, schedule, scope and contract terms directly for the project.
How an investor should compare the stocks
The operating comparison is only one part of an investment decision. Investors should compare same-period GAAP gross profit and operating income, cash flow, debt and margins, and examine company-specific non-GAAP reconciliations. Revenue growth can reflect acquisitions as well as existing-market activity, while pipeline measures are neither guaranteed revenue nor proof of future profits.
Risk factors to assess include weather, project execution, dependence on public funding, input costs, acquisition integration and financing. In the latest quarter, Construction Partners disclosed acquisition-related growth and higher interest expense; Granite’s GAAP loss was largely attributable to its convertible-debt transaction. Those different items make a headline comparison of growth or net income incomplete. (Construction Partners’ Q3 2026 Form 10-Q; Granite’s Q2 2026 release.)
The public filings and company releases describe reported business mix and results; they do not establish a contractor’s suitability for a particular job or provide an investment valuation. Procurement decisions require project-specific verification, and stock analysis requires a separate assessment of valuation and investor objectives.
