Coinbase Exchange is relevant here for spot trading, while Deribit is a crypto derivatives platform with its own spot markets. Coinbase’s International Exchange derivatives infrastructure was integrated with Deribit on October 1, 2026; Coinbase app users and Deribit users still access products through distinct interfaces. Which is the better fit depends on the instrument you want, your eligibility, and the full cost of trading—not on comparing headline fees alone.
Information checked October 7, 2026. Fees, listings, rollout status, and access can change.
What the Coinbase–Deribit relationship means
Coinbase says its International Exchange and Deribit integration was completed on October 1, 2026. The change concerns derivatives infrastructure: Coinbase retail users continue to access perpetuals through the Coinbase app or website, with Deribit infrastructure powering the migrated experience. Existing Deribit users continue to use Deribit. Coinbase says institutional International Exchange accounts, positions, and balances migrated to the combined platform; institutional API users should consult the migration guidance and new endpoint information. See Coinbase’s integration overview and its institutional integration FAQs.
That does not make Coinbase Exchange and Deribit a single spot venue or give them one universal fee schedule. Coinbase Exchange remains a Coinbase spot exchange. Coinbase app perpetuals, Coinbase Exchange spot trading, and trading on Deribit are separate access and product contexts. Coinbase states: “Products and services are available only to eligible users in supported jurisdictions, and are subject to applicable eligibility and onboarding requirements.” Availability can therefore depend on jurisdiction, account type, platform, eligibility, and onboarding—not just the country where you live.

Products: what each platform offers
| Platform or access path | Products described in the current materials | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase Exchange | Spot trading on Coinbase Exchange, with its own published maker/taker fee tiers. | Check the specific trading pair and the fee schedule that applies to your account. |
| Deribit | Inverse BTC and ETH options, futures, and perpetuals; USDC-settled options, perpetuals, and futures for several altcoins; spot markets, including some yield-bearing assets and gold; and DVOL futures linked to Deribit’s volatility index. | Confirm the exact instrument and settlement type in the current listing and your logged-in account. Deribit’s product overview describes its product range. |
| Coinbase app or website perpetuals | Perpetuals through Coinbase’s familiar app or web workflow, powered by the migrated derivatives infrastructure. | Check the products, fees, market data, and eligibility shown in your own account. |
| Coinbase International Exchange institutional access | Institutional derivatives access on the combined platform following the migration. | API users should confirm the applicable gateway, endpoint, and market-data workflow in Coinbase’s migration guidance. |
Coinbase also announced that 125+ additional perpetual contracts are being added to Deribit. That is Coinbase’s announced expansion, not an independently audited count of markets currently available to every user; rollout and account listings may differ. Coinbase describes the integration and expansion in its integration overview.
Spot markets on Deribit can use different liquidity and fees
Some spot pairs shown through Deribit route to Coinbase Exchange liquidity. They remain accessible through Deribit, but are not native Deribit spot-book pairs and use a different Deribit fee treatment. Deribit’s published rates are 2 bps maker and 5 bps taker for routed Coinbase Exchange spot pairs, versus 0% maker and 0% taker for native Deribit spot-book pairs. Routed pairs can change, so check the current Deribit spot instrument listing before trading.

How the published fees compare
The schedules below are not a direct like-for-like price comparison: Coinbase’s figures are for Coinbase Exchange spot trading, while Deribit’s standard derivatives rates apply to different instruments. Rates can vary with tier, order execution, and product. One basis point (bp) is 0.01%.
| Venue and product | Published fee | Scope and important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Coinbase Exchange spot, $0K–$10K tier | 40 bps maker / 60 bps taker | Published standard Coinbase Exchange fees outside the Liquidity Program. |
| Coinbase Exchange spot, $400M+ tier | 0 bps maker / 4 bps taker | Published standard Coinbase Exchange fees outside the Liquidity Program. |
| Deribit perpetuals and futures | 1.5 bps maker / 3.5 bps taker | Deribit published Standard rate. |
| Deribit options | 3 bps maker / 3 bps taker | Deribit published Standard rate, capped at 12.5% of premium. |
| Deribit spot pairs routed to Coinbase Exchange | 2 bps maker / 5 bps taker | Deribit’s routed-spot fee treatment. |
| Native Deribit spot-book pairs | 0% maker / 0% taker | Deribit’s published rate for native spot pairs; verify whether a pair is native or routed. |
Coinbase Exchange lists separate taker pricing for stable pairs and says maker fees on stable pairs are 0.00%; classifications and peg behavior matter. The full Coinbase Exchange fee schedule distinguishes those pairs. Its figures should not be treated as the fee schedule for Coinbase app perpetuals or every other Coinbase product.

- BUILT FOR YOUR MARKET, FUTURES, STOCKS, FOREX, OPTIONS & CRYPTO: 4X is a mindset and process journal, not a strategy tool tied to one instrument. The plan, the trade log, the deep dive and the weekly review work the same whether you trade ES, EURUSD, SPY or BTC. Traders use it across all five markets every day.
- THE 2026 EDITION, REBUILT FROM TRADER FEEDBACK: Same trusted system, better in every way. An extra daily page for more room to log the session. Weekly reviews now grouped with each week's trades, so no more flipping back and forth. Crisp, darker print that's easy on the eyes after hours on a screen. A Quick-Start QR that scans straight to step-by-step instructions.
- NOT A NOTEBOOK, A COMPLETE 12-WEEK SYSTEM: Start with a one-time 9-part Trading Plan (your market, setups, risk rules and discipline checklist). Then twelve identical weeks: five Daily Logs, five Deep Dive trade pages, and a two-page Weekly Review. 189 guided pages, roughly 80 trades. Guided prompts walk you through every step. You never stare at a blank page.
- RATE YOUR EXECUTION, NOT YOUR RESULT: Your platform tracks the P&L. Nothing tracks the why. Log energy, sleep and mindset before the open; grade every trade A to F on whether you followed your plan, not on whether it won; then face the pattern every weekend with START / STOP / IMPROVE / CONTINUE. That review habit is the edge. You're 42% more likely to hit a goal you've written down.
- BUILT TO LAST, ARRIVES GIFT-READY: Vegan-leather hardcover, 100gsm bleed-resistant paper, two ribbon markers and an elastic closure band. Bound to lay flat so you're not fighting the spine while you write. 189 pages, 5.75" x 8.5", carries in a bag. Ships in a premium gift box: the gift every trader in your life actually wants.
Deribit’s standard fee figures and tier rules are on its fees page, updated September 25, 2026. VIP rates differ. For example, VIP 1 requires either $100,000 USDC equity or $250,000 total equity. Volume-based tiers use separate futures and options thresholds; Deribit says the highest VIP level achieved for either futures or options applies to both product types, while spot volume does not count toward those volume thresholds.
Why the lowest headline rate may not mean the lowest total cost
Maker and taker treatment
Maker/taker pricing depends on how an order interacts with the book, not simply on whether it is a limit order. A limit order that executes immediately may take liquidity. Compare the fee for the execution you are likely to get, using your actual tier and the specific product.
Derivatives carry costs beyond the trade fee
For derivatives, consider funding, expiry or delivery settlement, and liquidation terms alongside entry and exit fees. Deribit’s published schedule lists an additional 1% total liquidation fee for BTC, ETH, and USDC futures and perpetuals, and caps total options liquidation fees at 25% of option value. Options traders should also account for the 12.5%-of-premium cap on the standard trading fee and applicable expiry settlement fees.
Spot routing and transfers
A Deribit interface does not guarantee a native Deribit spot-book execution: a pair may route to Coinbase Exchange liquidity and incur Deribit’s routed-pair fee. Deribit says deposits and transfers between subaccounts are free, while third-party deposit services may charge. Withdrawal costs vary by currency and network.
Best Value
Which platform or access path may fit you
- You mainly trade Coinbase Exchange spot: Coinbase Exchange is the relevant venue to assess if you want its own spot order book and fee tiers. Do not apply that schedule to Coinbase app derivatives.
- You need crypto options or specific derivatives: Deribit is the more relevant product comparison if you are looking for its listed options, inverse or USDC-settled contracts, or DVOL futures. Confirm the exact contract and your account’s access.
- You already trade perpetuals in the Coinbase app: Coinbase says the app and web workflow remains, even though the underlying perpetuals infrastructure migrated. Use the account’s displayed products, fees, and market data to assess your own access.
- You use an institutional account or API: Check Coinbase’s integration and migration documentation for your account status, endpoint, and market-data workflow rather than assuming an old International Exchange connection still applies.
A practical comparison checklist
Before choosing an access path, compare the same instrument and trading pattern rather than just the platform names:
- Identify the exact instrument. Separate spot from perpetuals, dated futures, and options; note settlement currency and expiry where relevant.
- Confirm access. Check the logged-in product list, jurisdictional eligibility, account type, and any onboarding conditions.
- Find your actual fee tier. Compare maker and taker charges for the specific product, including any option premium cap or stable-pair treatment.
- Estimate total trading costs. Include funding, settlement or delivery, liquidation, and withdrawal charges that apply to your activity.
- Check the trading path. For Deribit spot, verify whether the pair is native or routed; for institutional/API use, confirm the current endpoint and data workflow.
There is no universal cheapest-platform conclusion from these published schedules: they cover different products, and the total cost depends on the instrument, account tier, execution, and other applicable charges.
