Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said on September 10, 2026, that he personally believes Bitcoin has already reached its low for the current cycle and expects it to trend higher over the next one to two years as the next halving approaches. That is a forecast, not confirmation that the low is in. The historical drawdowns cited in coverage make his view plausible, but they do not establish that Bitcoin has bottomed.
What did Brian Armstrong say about Bitcoin’s bottom?
In a September 10, 2026 report, The Block quoted Armstrong as saying, “I personally think we’ve seen the bottom of the bitcoin price in this cycle.” He expected an upward trend over the following one to two years, with the next halving as a point of reference. The Block’s report describes his personal outlook; it does not present a company forecast or proof that a lasting low had formed.
This was not his first comment on a possible floor. In June 2026, Armstrong said his instinct was that Bitcoin had probably found a floor near $60,000 and pointed to the recurring four-year cycle. That earlier estimate belongs to the June comments, not the September statement. The June coverage reported it separately.
What does the historical cycle comparison show?
The four-year-cycle argument links Bitcoin’s price history to halving events, when the rate of new bitcoin issuance is reduced. A July 2026 Motley Fool article reported these peak-to-trough drawdowns for three earlier lows:

| Low cited | Reported peak-to-trough drawdown |
|---|---|
| 2015 | 86% (The Motley Fool, 2026) |
| 2018 | 84% (The Motley Fool, 2026) |
| 2022 | 77% (The Motley Fool, 2026) |
Those figures show progressively shallower declines across the three cited lows. They offer some historical context for the idea that later Bitcoin downturns may be less severe than earlier ones, but three observations are a small sample. The percentages are the Motley Fool’s reported figures, not independently recalculated price-series data. The Motley Fool’s discussion also cautioned that Bitcoin may not follow prior cycles exactly.
Does that history prove Bitcoin has bottomed?
No. A pattern in three past drawdowns cannot identify the final low in a current cycle. Prices can fall further after a forecast, and a low can only be confirmed retrospectively with subsequent price behavior. The reviewed coverage provides selected historical comparisons, not a complete primary price series establishing that the current cycle low is final.

The Block’s September 10 report put Bitcoin near $78,000, about 1.7% lower over the prior 24 hours and roughly 38% below the report’s stated all-time high of $126,000. These are snapshots from that report’s date, not current prices or evidence on their own that a bottom had formed. The Block reported those figures alongside Armstrong’s view.
How accurate has Armstrong been at calling cycle bottoms?
The cited coverage does not provide a rigorous record of Armstrong’s past bottom predictions or enough post-forecast price data to score this call. It therefore does not establish how close he is, statistically, or whether this particular prediction will prove correct.

Armstrong acknowledged uncertainty in a June Yahoo Finance interview: “Well, nobody knows for sure on these things, right?” Yahoo Finance’s June 18, 2026 interview transcript records that qualification. Armstrong leads Coinbase, a company connected to cryptocurrency markets; that is relevant context for readers, but the available material does not establish that this relationship motivated his prediction.

Treat the statement as one executive’s market outlook, not as a reliable signal that a particular price is a floor. The past declines cited above help explain why a four-year-cycle thesis can sound plausible, while the small sample and absence of a forecast scorecard limit what it can tell you. A decision involving Bitcoin should account for the possibility that prices may fall further, rather than relying on Armstrong’s timing call as confirmation of a bottom.
