Before closing, CEO Sanjay Poonen said the deal took priority over an IPO and described $2 billion in revenue as a near-term goal—not an achieved result. Those comments are historical: the cited sources do not establish Cohesity’s current revenue or IPO plans.
What Cohesity’s CEO said about the Veritas deal
In a 2024 interview with CRN, CEO Sanjay Poonen said Cohesity had chosen to pursue the acquisition rather than go public at that point. He framed the deal as a way to expand the company’s position in data protection, saying it would take Cohesity “from number seven to number one in the market.” That ranking was his characterization in the interview, not an independent current market-share assessment.
The transaction later closed. Cohesity announced on December 10, 2024, that it had completed its combination with Veritas’ enterprise data-protection business. The announcement concerns that business, not all Veritas operations. Cohesity described the combined company as the world’s largest data-protection software provider and number one by market share; those are the company’s own claims.
What the $2 billion revenue figure meant
Poonen said pro forma revenue for the fiscal year ending August 2024 was $1.7 billion and adjusted EBITDA was 28%. These were figures he cited in the interview, not independently audited results established by the source. He described becoming a $2 billion revenue company soon as a goal. The interview does not show that Cohesity reached that goal.

- Entry-level NAS Personal Storage:UGREEN NAS DH2300 is your first and best NAS made easy. It is designed for beginners who want a simple, private way to store videos, photos and personal files, which is intuitive for users moving from cloud storage or external drives and move away from scattered date across devices. This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
- Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
- The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
- Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
- Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
In its closing announcement, Cohesity said the combined business had crossed $1.5 billion in annual revenue and served more than 12,000 enterprise customers. These company-reported figures were published at completion in December 2024. They are distinct from the CEO’s $1.7 billion pro forma fiscal-year figure and his $2 billion target; the available statements do not provide a basis for treating them as directly comparable financial measures.
The same announcement cited IDC’s projected 2024 vendor sales of $12.3 billion for the data replication and protection software market. That is a market estimate quoted by Cohesity, not Cohesity revenue.

Did Cohesity restart its IPO plans?
In the 2024 interview, Poonen said Cohesity had not restarted IPO plans and called an IPO “a milestone” rather than the destination. He said the company decided to do the Veritas deal instead of going public. These comments describe his position at the time; neither the interview nor the December 2024 closing announcement establishes Cohesity’s current IPO plans.

Poonen also pointed to potential demand for services that help organizations implement data protection, backup and recovery, immutability, and cyber resilience. He discussed a role for value-added resellers and systems integrators, alongside technology and security companies. This was a forecast of an opportunity around the combined business, not evidence of realized services revenue or a verified partner program.
