Cognizant completed its acquisition of engineering-services provider Belcan on August 27, 2024. The deal was intended to strengthen Cognizant’s aerospace and defense capabilities and bring Belcan’s established customer relationships into its services business. Cognizant said Belcan was expected to contribute more than $800 million in annualized revenue; that was an announcement-era estimate, not a report of realized post-acquisition sales.
What Cognizant bought
Cognizant announced a definitive agreement to acquire Belcan, LLC, a portfolio company of AE Industrial Partners, on June 10, 2024. Belcan supplies engineering research and development services to commercial aerospace, defense, space, marine and industrial customers, primarily in North America and the United Kingdom.
The acquisition brought Cognizant an engineering-services business with a reported base of technical staff and customer relationships in aerospace and defense. In its transaction presentation, Cognizant described Belcan as having more than 6,500 engineers and technical consultants and reported an 8% revenue compound annual growth rate over the two years before the announcement. Those are Cognizant’s figures, not independent measurements.
What the $800 million revenue figure means
Cognizant said Belcan was expected to contribute more than $800 million in revenue on an annualized basis. The company’s announcement also said the amount Belcan would contribute during 2024 would depend on when the acquisition closed. An annualized contribution is an estimate expressed as a full-year run rate; it should not be read as proof that the acquired business generated that amount in post-acquisition sales.

Cognizant also forecast more than $100 million in annual revenue synergies within three years. This, too, was a company forecast at announcement, not a reported result.
Why Cognizant said the acquisition fit
The strategic rationale was to combine Belcan’s engineering domain knowledge and aerospace and defense customer relationships with Cognizant’s broader digital-services capabilities. Cognizant said the combination would expand its engineering services and increase its presence in aerospace and defense. The announcement described the intended fit, but does not establish that projected synergies were achieved or that customers experienced specific outcomes.

At the time of the announcement, Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S. said: “Belcan’s deep engineering capabilities and domain expertise across the aerospace & defense market will be complemented by Cognizant’s scale and own multi-decade digital engineering expertise, providing Belcan’s blue-chip client roster access to our advanced AI, Cloud and Data technologies.”

The company’s announcement-era materials provide the basis for the purchase price, revenue estimate, staff count, growth rate and synergy forecast. Cognizant’s completion announcement and subsequent Form 10-K establish that the transaction closed; they do not turn the earlier revenue estimate into a verified post-close sales figure.
