Cogeco’s wireless launch began in 12 markets. Here’s what happened next

Cogeco’s wireless service was already underway in July 2025, expanded from 12 announced markets to a 13-market launch, and later reached most of its Québec and Ontario operating footprint.

Cogeco’s Canadian wireless launch was already underway on July 15, 2025—not merely planned. The company said an initial group of customers was using the service and that it would expand into 12 markets over the following weeks. On July 30, Cogeco formally launched Cogeco Mobile in 13 markets, adding Sept-Îles. By July 2026, Cogeco said wireless had reached most of its Québec and Ontario operating footprint.

This timeline matters because the original “coming weeks” announcement described a staged regional rollout, not nationwide availability or a standalone national cellular network.

The rollout timeline

Date What Cogeco said
July 15, 2025 In its Q3 fiscal 2025 results release, Cogeco said a first cohort was already using Canadian wireless service and that expansion into 12 markets would occur over the coming weeks. Read the announcement.
July 30, 2025 Cogeco announced the formal launch of Cogeco Mobile in 13 markets, with Sept-Îles added to the seven Québec and five Ontario communities named earlier. Read the launch release.
Fiscal 2026 Cogeco later reported that Canadian wireless had launched across the majority of its Québec and Ontario operating footprint, with wireless sales ahead of plan and a reported churn benefit from fixed-mobile convergence. Read the Q3 fiscal 2026 update.

Which 12 markets were initially named?

The July 15 announcement identified 12 communities or market areas. “Markets” does not mean 12 separate cellular networks; it describes the listed launch areas.

Québec

  1. Alma
  2. Magog
  3. Rimouski
  4. Saint-Georges
  5. Saint-Hyacinthe
  6. Saint-Sauveur
  7. Trois-Rivières

Ontario

  1. Brockville
  2. Chatham
  3. Cobourg
  4. Cornwall
  5. Welland

Why did the official launch say 13 markets?

The July 30 release was an update to the staged plan, not a contradiction. It retained the original seven Québec markets and five Ontario markets, then added Sept-Îles, Québec, for a 13-market formal launch.

Who could sign up?

Cogeco’s launch release said Cogeco Mobile was available to new and existing Cogeco Internet subscribers, including customers bringing their own device. That wording does not establish that every resident of a listed community could subscribe independently of Cogeco Internet eligibility.

Before switching, verify your exact address and account eligibility in Cogeco’s current signup flow. Also confirm that your phone is unlocked and compatible.

What was included in the 2025 launch offer?

  • Plans advertised as starting at $0 for the first year.
  • Rollover data.
  • No commitments.
  • No activation fees.
  • No surprise overages.

These were launch terms announced on July 30, 2025. “Starting at $0” did not mean every plan was free, and the cited release did not specify the full data allowance, post-promotion price, taxes, device rules or cancellation terms. The offer was described as time-limited, so it should not be treated as current August 2026 pricing without checking Cogeco’s live customer pages at cogeco.ca.

  • COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.

In practical terms, Cogeco manages the customer relationship and sells the service, while wireless connectivity is supplied through agreements with other mobile network operators and related infrastructure. Cogeco also said it would build infrastructure where that made sense over time. The available releases do not identify every Canadian network partner, so customers should not assume Cogeco owns a nationwide standalone radio network.

What the later expansion means

By its July 15, 2026 Q3 fiscal 2026 update, Cogeco said Canadian wireless had been launched across most of its Québec and Ontario operating footprint. It also said wireless sales were ahead of plan and that combining fixed Internet and mobile was providing a churn benefit. Those statements show that the service moved beyond the limited initial-market phase, but they do not establish nationwide availability, a specific subscriber count, network speeds or a complete current coverage map.

Who should consider Cogeco Mobile?

  • Existing Cogeco Internet customers who want one provider for fixed broadband and mobile.
  • Customers in or near Cogeco’s current Québec and Ontario service areas who value a no-commitment positioning.
  • BYOD users who can verify device compatibility and current plan terms.

It may be a poor fit for people outside Cogeco’s mobile footprint, customers seeking handset financing, heavy international travelers, or anyone who requires independently verified nationwide coverage.

Check these details before changing service

  • Address availability: Confirm mobile service at your exact address, not only in a named community.
  • Eligibility: Check whether maintaining Cogeco Internet is required for the plan or any discount.
  • Regular price: Find the monthly cost after any introductory period, plus taxes and fees.
  • Data rules: Confirm the allowance, rollover expiry and any network-management or deprioritization policy.
  • Coverage and 5G: Verify domestic coverage, 5G availability and device requirements.
  • Roaming: Review international rates, included destinations and travel limits.
  • Hardware: Confirm that a bring-your-own phone is unlocked, compatible and supported.

The Bottom Line

Cogeco’s July 15, 2025 announcement described a launch already in progress and a 12-market expansion. The July 30 launch reached 13 markets after adding Sept-Îles, and Cogeco reported broader deployment across most of its Québec and Ontario footprint by fiscal 2026. Treat the original $0-first-year promotion as historical, and verify today’s eligibility, coverage and post-promotion price before switching.
