Cockburn Basketball Association announced on September 27, 2024, that it had received an Australian Government Play Our Way grant of $109,012 to help women and girls take part in basketball. The association said the funding would support entry-level scholarships, female coach development and mental-skills support for sub-elite and elite women. A government contract listing records a different amount—$119,913.20—so the two figures should not be treated as interchangeable.
Why do the two published grant amounts differ?
Cockburn Basketball Association’s September 2024 announcement put the award at $109,012. The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care’s 2025 contracts listing records a value of $119,913.20 for the association under the Play Our Way Participation and Equipment Stream. The available sources do not explain the difference, so it is not possible to say whether it reflects a contract variation, a different accounting basis or an error.
The figures come from distinct records: the association’s announcement and the department’s 2024 contracts listing, published in 2025. The listing identifies agreement 4-K2Y420M, dated October 15, 2024, with an end date of June 30, 2027.
What did Cockburn Basketball say the grant would fund?

How long is the project expected to run?
Association CEO Tyrone Thwaites described the investment as being “for three years.” The government contract listing gives the more precise agreement period as October 15, 2024, to June 30, 2027.
